K&N Filters Monte Carlo in the Spotlight at O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals

Jeff Arend is preparing to drive his special-edition K&N Filters Monte Carlo at the O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston this weekend. Arend drove the K&N Filters Chevy on March 18th at the AC Delco Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway.

“I’m glad we have another opportunity to run the K&N car this weekend,” said Arend. “It’s a beautiful race car, and the people at K&N have been fantastic supporters. There’s one good way to say ‘Thank You” to the company whose name is all over the car, and that’s to win rounds and get them on television a lot. That’s our plan. Everyone on this team is focused, motivated and ready to represent our sport to the best of our ability.”

Arend has a resume with 12 years in the Nitro Funny car class. He is Del Worhsam’s teammate in the Checker, Schuck’s Kragen blue car. “I’ve spent the majority of my life racing on the drag strip, and a big hunk of my adult life driving Funny Cars so this is absolutely where I’m meant to be,” said Arend. “This is what we do and we’re lucky to do it.”

For Arend to deliver, he’ll have to put his K&N Filters Monte Carlo deep into the Houston race field. He’ll also have to win rounds, just as he did at Pomona.

“I take great pride in my skills, and I work on them all the time,” he said. “As the driver, I’m not there to make the tuning calls, although I do also pride myself on being able to give solid and informative feedback to my crew. But once we’re at the line, it’s my job to get the car to the other end and to keep it straight. On Sunday I have to focus on leaving first. With this team, and all of our abilities, we always have a good chance to win.”

First National Event on IHRA Tour has Last Minute Changes

Brian Folk drove his Top Dragster to victory at the Amalie Oil Texas Nationals for his 17th career national event title win. This trip to San Antonio was Folk’s first IHRA 1/8th mile national event.

The fist national event on the 2007 IHRA tour was originally set to be a quarter mile contest. Initial time trials and qualifying for the sportsman classes were held at the standard quarter mile distance. However, the first professional qualifying session exposed problems in the track surface, forcing the IHRA to make a tough decision and make the track 1/8th of a mile.

“It was wild,” said Folk. “We made some time runs Friday, we woke up Saturday and they were repaving the track. We’re racers, whether the distance is a half-mile or 330 feet, we give it a try. Between big money bracket racing and the IHRA Pro-Am events, we get to do a lot of the 1/8th mile racing. Personally, I prefer quarter mile competition. I think you have to drive a little bit more to be successful. Given the circumstances and the fact that a lot of the competitors, like us, were a long way from home, I agree with the IHRA’s decision. I also applaud them for making a quick decision and completing the event on schedule.”

The 34-year-old Durand, Illinois racer is a multi-time IHRA and NHRA Division Champion with a long list of top ten finishes to his credit. Folk also has several Moroso 5-Day bracket championship titles.

At San Antonio, Folk’s first IHRA 1/8th mile National Event may be even more memorable than his prior victories. “I beat my brother Nick, a former IHRA Top Dragster World Champion in the final round,” said Brian Folk. “Nick was the runner-up. Of course, there is a pretty intense sibling rivalry, so that round was really important to both of us.”

The Amalie Oil Texas Nationals marked the Folk Racing Team’s second week at the San Antonio facility. They arrived one week earlier to compete in the IHRA Division 4 Pro-Am event. The Folk family dominated the Top Dragster class, as Nick earned a final round victory over his father, Ron Folk. Nick also was victorious in Stock Eliminator with his Gebhardt Trailer Sales backed Camaro.

The Folk Racing Team uses K&N Engineering products. “We have 3 dragsters and two stock eliminators,” said Folk. “We use K&N Oil Filter HP-3002 and have for years,’ he said. “We depend on the durability and reliability of K&N Filters and won’t use anything else.”

The crew fixed the damage and Allard went back on the track for the restart. He had his work cut out for him to get back up as high as he could. Allard stayed out of trouble the rest of the race and made it back up to 10th by the finish.

“Racing may have its ups and downs but the one thing that stays on top is the performance of our K&N Filters,” said Allard. “It was a tough night, but our team was able to work through the adversity.” Williams Motorsports goes to Tulare, California second in standings.

Thunderbowl Raceway is one of Allard’s best tracks. He has won twice in his career at the Thunderbowl and competes well there. He will go into the night against Oroville’s Sean Becker who leads him by seven points.

K&N Engineering has just released a Replacement Air Filter (HA-1006) for the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 Honda CBF1000.

More than 35 years of research and development has made K&N the leader in air filtration technology. K&N Air Filters are made of 4 to 6 layers of cotton gauze sandwiched between two epoxy-coated aluminum wire screens. The cotton is treated with a specially formulated grade of oil. This causes tackiness throughout the cotton's microscopic strands. The nature of the cotton allows air flow and when combined with the tackiness of our oil, it creates a powerful filtering media that ensures engine protection.

HA-1006 is a drop-in replacement air filter that requires no modifications. K&N Air Filters are washable and reusable. K&N makes stock replacement air filters for virtually every motorcycle and automobile on and off the road. K&N's stock air filters for street vehicles are covered by our famous K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty and will be the last air filter your vehicle will ever need.
