K&N Filters’ Bryce Menzies Becomes Back to Back 2016 Red Bull Frozen Rush Winner
- 15 ene 2016
For the third year in a row, Red Bull, makers of the highest-selling energy drink in the world, decided to challenge the elements and set up a race course designed to take Pro-4 racing to the limits. The Red Bull Frozen Rush puts short course off-road racers to the test as they compete on the snow and ice of the Sunday River Ski Resort.
Other than set-up adjustments, and one-off spiked tires made for the Frozen Rush, these trucks are identical to those they race in the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing series. By invitation only, nine professional off-road truck drivers again hit the road for Newry, Maine to take part in the third running of the Red Bull Frozen Rush event. Motocross racing legend, and accomplished Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) Pro-4 truck driver, Ricky Johnson won the inaugural Red Bull Frozen Rush in 2014 and if not for a mistake in the final round of 2015, he nearly took the checkers once again. In a repeat of the 2015 Red Bull Frozen Rush final round, Bryce Menzies faced former teammate Ricky Johnson as they raced for the title. In the end, it was the Red Bull sponsored and K&N Filters equipped Pro 4 Ford truck driven by Bryce Menzies that crossed the finish line first.
Bryce's first round race was against TORC series Pro 4 Champion Johnny Greaves in the head-to-head single elimination format. Menzies won the race right off the start by gaining the edge over Greaves. Bryce drove a clean first lap while Greaves struggled to navigate the moguls coming down the hill. Bryce laid down fast laps in his first heat that had the crowd showing full support for the Red Bull driver. After beating Johnny Greaves in round 1, Menzies was set to go up against Rob MacCachren in round 2. Bryce lost the coin toss for lane choice and found himself on the red lane to begin the race. After a close start, the #7 Red Bull K&N equipped Pro 4 had a significant lead heading into the last lap. Menzies eventually beat MacCachren and put himself in the finals for the second straight year. The finals were set and it was a repeat of the 2015 Red Bull Frozen Rush final round where Bryce beat his former teammate Ricky Johnson by a narrow margin. "I knew if I didn't bring my A game, Ricky was going to beat me," said Menzies after the race. Menzies won the race by being smooth through the moguls coming down the hill making up time on each lap.
This marks Bryce's second Red Bull Frozen Rush victory in his young career. Bryce and the entire Menzies Motorsports team is excited by this win and plan to carry this momentum into the 2016 Lucas Oil Off Road Series as well as the Best in the Desert & SCORE desert series.
