2011, 2012, and 2013, Buick Regal Turbo Gets Power Boost From K&N Air Intake System

Buick is currently the oldest active American auto maker and the marque has always been intended as more upscale than Chevrolet, Pontiac, or Oldsmobile, but reasonably priced compared to the flagship Cadillac brand. As such when the Buick Regal was introduced in 1973 it was intended as an upscale mid-size car. There wasn’t much that set the Buick Regal apart from its GM counterparts until the introduction of the second generation Regal in 1978. In 1978 the Buick Regal could be equipped with a 3.8L Turbocharged V6 engine at a time when only European imports, like Mercedes, Porsche, or Saab, offered turbocharged power.
The facelifted second gen Buick Regal became competitive on the 1981 NASCAR racing circuit and Richard Petty drove a Regal to victory in the 1981 Daytona 500. The Regal won a majority of the 1981 and 1982 NASCAR races and took the NASCAR manufacturers title both years. Buick capitalized on its NASCAR success and in 1982, the Regal Grand National, named for the NASCAR Winston Cup Grand National Series, made its debut. The Buick Regal Grand National, and the final year 1987 Limited Production Buick GNX "Grand National Experimental", were able to best the Chevy Camaro on the dragstrip making the Grand National an instant legend. Hoping to grab the attention of younger performance minded buyers who might otherwise opt for an upscale European car, Buick brought back the Turbo Regal in 2011 and it was also the first Buick model in 22 years to be offered with a manual transmission.
Based on the Opel Insignia Epsilon II platform the 2011, 2012, & 2013 Regal CXL Turbo came equipped with a turbocharged 2.0L direct-injected Ecotec DOHC I4 rated at 220 horsepower. The more performance oriented Buick Regal GS came with a GS-only high-output version of the Ecotec 2.0L turbo engine boasting 270 HP. Owners of 2011, 2012, or 2013 Buick Regal CXL Turbo models looking to get closer to the performance of a Regal GS, or a GS owner wanting even more performance, can bolt on a K&N performance air intake for increases in power than will be immediately noticed.
