Washable K&N Cabin Air Filters Make Semi Cabs a More Hospitable Environment

The cab of semi trucks is where the driver eats, sleeps, and works. It should be getting the cleanest air possible.

The cab of semi trucks is where the driver eats, sleeps, and works. It should be getting the cleanest air possible.

Just about all of us drive to and from work. However, some of us drive for work. These men and women spend day in and day out in the cab of their vehicle. These can be patrol officers, delivery personnel, or truck drivers, among other professions. For most truck drivers, the road is their home. They eat, sleep, and work in the cab of their big rigs. They see all parts of this country and all the good and bad that comes with it. The bad we are talking about here is the pollen, dust, germs, spores, fungus, mold, mildew, and everything else in the air that truck drivers have to endure day in and day out. If you are a truck driver out there, spending so much time in the cab of your truck, why not make it a little more hospitable?

Thanks to K&N, you can do just that. As a part of K&N’s line of washable and reusable cabin air filters, they have introduced the K&N VF8000. This cabin air filter replaces the stock cabin air filter in most 2002 and newer Freightliner trucks, including Century Class, Columbia and Coronado, and Cascadia models. K&N cabin air filters are the first of their kind designed to replace the stock cabin filter for a washable and reusable version. These filters clean and freshen the incoming air, removing potentially harmful pollutants before the air enters the cab of your truck.

Thanks to the washable and reusable properties of these filters, when the filter gets dirty, instead of throwing it away and spending money on another paper air filter, all you have to do is remove the filter and clean it with K&N’s 99-6000 cabin air filter cleaner. Once the filter has been rinsed clean, just respray it with the K&N refresher spray that comes in the kit. This spray helps add an electrostatic property to the filter. This actually grabs and holds onto contaminants, holding them in place until it is time to clean the filter again.

K&N is so sure of the quality of their cabin air filters that they guarantee them with a 10-Year/Million Mile Limited Warranty. They are able to last this long because of the quality of materials used. To start, the innovative synthetic filter media is sandwiched between a pair of epoxy coated aluminum mesh layers. This gives the filter rigidity and durability. This is then pleated for added surface area and molded into a urethane frame for an OE level of fitment.

If you put a lot of miles on your truck and haven’t checked your cabin air filter in a while, you may want to take a look at the K&N line of cabin air filters. A saturated cabin air filter can also put unnecessary strain on your blower motor, so switching to a cleanable filter could also help prevent costly repair bills and down time. To find out if K&N makes a replacement filter for your truck, you can use the K&N cross reference search and search for your filter manufacturer. And if you aren’t a truck driver, driving a Freightliner for a living, K&N makes washable cabin air filters for cars, trucks, and SUVs too. Check out K&N’s application tool to find the right product for your needs.

RJ Anderson and the New K&N Polaris Intake Win the UTV World Championship

RJ Anderson on the podium in the UTV World Championship in Laughlin, Nevada

RJ Anderson tops the podium in the UTV World Championship

RJ Anderson again proved that he is one of the most talented and versatile drivers in dirt racing. In his first time back in a UTV race this year, Anderson claimed the top podium spot in the prestigious UTV World Championship (UTVWC) Turbo Class short course race.

Anderson has been focusing his efforts on truck racing so far in 2017. However, the K&N-sponsored racer decided to strap himself back into his Polaris for the UTVWC, and he is certainly glad he did. It turns out that the win fulfilled a personal goal for Anderson and added a new Polaris to his garage.

“I’ve wanted one of these UTV World Championships for awhile,” said Anderson. “It’s a pinnacle trophy for our sport. I won a brand new RZR, which is a pretty big pay day…even bigger than the truck stuff I do. We had a flawless day.”

Anderson (#37) avoided the mayhem in what he called a "flawless day"

The win is a significant benchmark for one of K&N’s newest UTV performance products. Anderson’s Turbo Polaris is equipped with the brand new 63-1136 intake. The 63-1136 replaces the full intake on the 2016-2017 Polaris RZR XP Turbo. Clearly the added performance the 63-1136 provides played a role in Anderson’s win.

The windy and dusty conditions on the Laughlin course were also a great proving ground for the intake’s effective engine protection. K&N is proud to have helped keep Anderson’s day “flawless.”

The UTV World Championship short course race was contested on the same track as the long race, but was limited to three laps. From the start, the dust was a factor in the race, especially considering Anderson’s starting position.

Proving that K&N engine protection is top-notch, RJ (#37) ate some dust early in the race

“I started from row three and the dust was gnarly,” Anderson said. “I haven’t raced this car in 11 months. My guys put a solid prep on it. It feels really sweet, especially because I only do a few races per year.”

The K&N-sponsored UTV World Championship was a huge success from start to finish. It kicked off with the Pit Crew Challenge on Thursday night that was won by the K&N-sponsored Murray Race Team, and continued with the huge contingency and tech on Friday. However, the racing is what the weekend is all about, and it did not disappoint.

Because of the nature and layout of the Laughlin course, the racers had to contend with traffic all race long. This made for some exciting passing and a great viewing experience for race fans.

“This is a rad event seeing how many people were here,” said Anderson. “I’ve been in this sport awhile and it’s crazy to see 300 UTVs race.”

Anderson was quick to recognize all of his supporters and backers. “[I] can't thank my crew, sponsors, and family enough," he said. "I wanted this one bad!"

K&N congratulates RJ Anderson on a huge win in the UTV World Championship. K&N is also excited to have secured our first race victory with the new 63-1136 intake.

NASCAR Monster Energy Cup First Quarter Series Recap

Kyle Larson, K&N, NASCAR, STP 500

Kyle Larson racing during the STP 500

As the Easter holidays hits NASCAR, there has been some incredible action that has taken place so far this season. From The Clash at Daytona to the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500, NASCAR has once again proven it is as exciting and fun as it ever was.

Joey Logano won the first race of the season at The Clash at Daytona International Speedway, and has not looked back since. Although Logano has not won any races, he is still gaining crucial points in the Monster Energy Cup Series as he currently sits in 5th place with 243 points and 1 playoff point.

This season, NASCAR has implemented a new point system that goes in depth during the race. There are now two stages varying in length based on the duration of each race. The winner of each stage is now awarded one playoff point, and the winner of the race is awarded five points.

Chase Elliott and Denny Hamlin won the first and second Can-Am Duels, respectively. The Duels helped Elliott and Hamlin in the seeding for the first race of the series, the Daytona 500.

Kurt Busch won the season opening race, the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. The win was Busch’s first ever win at Daytona and the 29th win of his career.

“To have come here over the years and to have fast cars, to not deliver for the team, you leave here feeling more dejected than any other racetrack,” Busch said. “The years that you have really fast racecars, you end up on the hook, wrecked, those are the worst feelings.”

Busch received 56 points and 5 playoff points for his win at Daytona.

Brad Keselowski, K&N, NASCAR

Brad Keselowski celebrating one of his two wins in the series

Brad Keselowski won the second race of the season, the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Keselowski also won the STP 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Keselowski is the only driver to win two races so far this season and is leading the standings in playoff points. The wins were the 22nd and 23rd of his career, respectively and provided momentum in his racing. Keselowski has been in the top 5 of the standings for the duration of the season, and does not look to slow down anytime soon.

“I always feel like before a race, you obviously always want to win, and you always wonder yourself when your last win is going to be, and I'm not anywhere near retirement age, but you still think about those things and you think about how tough it just is to win at this level and how lucky you are to have a team to win,” Keselowski said. “A great winning percentage at this level is one out of every 10 races, and one out of every 10 races, if you can pull that off, you're a Hall of Famer”.

Martin Truex Jr. won the Kobalt 500 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, for his first win of the season and his first career win at the Kobalt 500. Truex Jr. became the first driver to sweep all 3 stages of a race.

“I think the important thing for us is we're starting off the season strong,” Truex Jr. said. “We're putting ourselves in position to win races, and that's really the key. If we can continue to run up front, lead laps, run at the front of the pack all day, you're going to put yourself into position to win races, and that's what we did today”.

Ryan Newman won the Camping World 500, which happened to be his first win in 127 races. This was the longest drought of Newman’s career.

Kyle Larson has been the story of the Monster Energy Cup Series so far, stringing together three second place finishes followed by a win at the Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway. This was Larson’s second win of his career.

“Well, I'm really, you know, fortunate to be driving really fast race cars right now” Larson said. Our cars are by far as good as they've ever been, really good at every racetrack right now. In both series I feel like I have a shot to win every time I go to the racetrack. That's always a lot of fun. That's always something I've hoped for, to get to a point of that in my NASCAR career”.

Kurt Busch, Daytona 500, K&N

Jimmie Johnson won the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas Motor Speedway for his 81st win of his career. This was Johnson’s first win of the season, and his second top 5 finish.

Kyle Larson leads the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series standings with 315 points and 6 playoff points. Chase Elliott is in second place with 298 points and 2 playoff points. Martin Truex Jr. is in third place with 275 points and 9 playoff points. Brad Keselowski is in fourth with 274 and 10 playoff points. Joey Logano is in fifth with 273 points and 1 playoff point.

The next race in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Carl Edwards won the race last year.

Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Opens 8th Year and K&N is Right There With Them

K&N has been a major sponsor of LOORS since just about the beginning of the series

K&N has been a major sponsor of LOORS since just about the beginning of the series

In 2009, Lucas Oil stepped up and created the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series after the demise of Championship Off Road Racing (CORR) when it closed its doors in 2008. At the time CORR was the sanctioning body for off-road racing in the United States.

“Forrest Lucas, the founder of Lucas Oil, didn’t want to see hundreds of off-road racing teams without a series. So he joined forces with Tony Vanillo, a veteran off-road racer, chassis builder, and series director, and started the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series,” explained Alex Striler, Director of Sales and Marketing for Lucas Oil and Director of Team Lucas.

According to Striler, Lucas tapped into Vanillo’s experience and connections in the off-road industry and Vanillo was given access to Lucas’ resources.

“At the time, Lucas Oil owned several different racing series and had already been creating content for television networks that covered racing including Versus, ESPN, and Speed Channel,” said Striler.

Vanillo used his knowledge of the industry to gather experienced directors and technical personnel including Lee Perfect, Gary Lane, and Tommy Morris. This group adopted many of the rules and procedures followed by CORR.

Along with track signage, K&N gets TV air time on NBC Sports, CBS, CBS Sports, MAVTV, and more

Promotion of the new series relied exclusively on word-of-mouth and yet the story of the new organization spread like wildfire.

“Early on the base of support for the organization were the fans of the racing teams that had previously raced for CORR,” said Striler. “The sponsors then followed the fans.”

Within a year, companies including K&N, Rockstar Energy Drink, Toyota, General Tire, and GEICO started supporting the series. K&N and Lucas Oil also just announced that they will continue their partnership through 2017.

“K&N has been involved with the series and most of the teams from the very beginning,” said Striler. “K&N Filters and Lucas Oil are perfect partners because when you change oil you also have to change your oil filter. Moreover, off-roaders need to clean their air filters more frequently than commuters who only drive on pavement.”

As the series grew, Lucas Oil began building tracks. According to Striler, Vanillo designed the Lake Elsinore, California, track to appeal to the motocross fans of the Inland Empire. The Reno, Nevada, track that he designed featured high banking berms that cut into the hillside.

Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series' track under construction in Wheatland, Missouri.

Bird's eye view of the new Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series track in Wheatland, Missouri

“We experimented with different tracks and ideas,” noted Striler, “but not all of them worked. The track at Primm, where we raced once in the early days, was too windy and didn’t attract a lot of spectators. The track in Surprise, Arizona, where we raced for a few years, went out of business. We thought about racing at Pala for fans in San Diego, but the small road going to the raceway has switchbacks and turns that are too tight for 18-wheelers or large motorhomes pulling a long trailer. We also looked at property in San Angelo, Texas, but there is still some debate on whether or not the teams will make the long haul without additional sponsor funding. Today, Ritchie Lewis is running the series and he’s building a new dirt track at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri. It’s in the middle of the country, so teams from all over can race. After Wheatland is finished, Ritchie’s goal is to keep expanding into new areas.”

Striler points out that the goal of Lucas Oil is to make the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series a household name.

To help with that, a movie called DIRT, will soon open around the country. A full-length feature film starring Kevin Dillon, it is based on the off-road racing series.

K&N has a lot of exposure in the movie because the K&N logo is on all the winning trucks, noted Striler.

“While we made the movie to promote the Lucas Oil Racing Series, it’s also one way for us to say ‘thank you’ to our sponsors. All the brands who support us are featured in the movie,” continued Striler.

As Lucas Oil expands internationally, like Estero Beach, Mexico, K&N will be along for the ride

As Lucas Oil expands internationally, like Estero Beach, Mexico, K&N will be along for the ride

According to Striler, a major goal of the series is to let consumers know what companies support racing so they can support those companies.

He also noted that many of the sponsors including K&N are part of a program called Team Lucas.

“Team Lucas is a marketing co-op in which we put on more than 400 different events a year including the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series,” continued Striler. “We create over 300 hours of network television. Our Team Lucas shows are now aired on NBC Sports, CBS, CBS Sports, MAVTV Motorsports Network, and the Lucas Oil Racing TV Network.”

Team Lucas programs reach millions of race fans every year. As a result, Lucas Oil’s product sales are at an all-time high.

“Our audience is a middle-class do-it-yourselfer who likes to tune up his car and change his own oil, filters, and plugs. He buys Lucas Oil because he’s willing to make the investment in a premium brand that will extend the life of his vehicle.

Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series events are held at seven tracks – Glen Helen Raceway, San Bernardino, California; Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park, Lake Elsinore, California; Wild West Motorsports Park, Sparks, Nevada; Utah Motorsports Campus, Tooele, Utah; Wild Horse Motorsports Park, Chandler, Arizona; Estero Beach, Ensenada, Mexico; Lucas Oil Speedway, Wheatland, Missouri.

50 State Legal K&N Cold Air Intake Adds Estimated 23 HP to 2015 Ford F-150 Ecoboost

The K&N 57-2592 FIPK Intake increases power while meeting CARB emmissions standards

The 2015 Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost produces 365 HP. A K&N FIPK kit will add an estimated 23 HP

The 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine was designed by Ford to produce power and torque equivalent to a typical V8 while achieving improved fuel economy. The 2015 edition of the 3.5L twin-turbocharged V6 fitted to the Ford F-150 produces an impressive 365 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 420 lb-ft of torque at 2500 rpm. Even better news is that the K&N can add over 23 horsepower with the easy-to-install 57-2592 performance cold air intake system.

The 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine architecture features a 60 degree V angle, oversquare bore to stroke dimensions, and a 10.0:1 compression ratio. The engine features an aluminum block and aluminum DOHC cylinder heads. Valve actuation is by direct acting mechanical bucket (DAMB) camshaft tappets. Valve timing is via Ford’s Ti-VCTT (Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing).

Fuel pressures of up to 2150 PSI are necessary for the sequential direct fuel injection system, which allows the engine to run on regular gasoline. Plus, of course, the assistance of a pair of turbochargers that generate 12 PSI of boost. To handle that power the bottom end consists of a forged steel crank and connecting rods, and six-bolt main bearings.

The heat shield and filter are designed to be located in the original air box space

The K&N FIPK intake system replaces the restrictive factory air intake in 2015 F-150 EcoBoost V6

By installing a K&N 57-2592 intake system, you’ll increase not only the horsepower of your 2015 turbo F-150, but also torque. In chassis dyno testing, a K&N 57-2592 installed on a 2015 Ford F-150 equipped with the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 raised torque by an estimated 34.48 lb-ft at 3505 rpm as well as the estimated increase of 23.01 horsepower at 3505 rpm, all measured at the rear wheels.

How it works? The K&N 57-2592 cold air intake replaces the restrictive factory air filter and air intake housing on 2015 Ford F150 3.5 V6 EcoBoost models. The K&N air intake is engineered to significantly reduce air intake restriction as well as smooth and straighten air flow. This allows your engine to inhale a larger amount of air than the factory air filter assembly. Your Ford’s ECU responds to the additional intake air and adds more fuel, increasing horsepower.

The K&N Filter used in the 2015 Ford 3.5 V6 turbo FIPK kit feature a shock-resistant rubber flan

The massive air filter draws more than enough air to feed both turbos and increase power

The FIPK air intake comes with an oversized 7.5-inch RC-5173 K&N high-flow air filter with a protective heat shield to keep high underhood temperatures from saturating the cool incoming air destined for the engine. The filter and heat shield both install into the OEM air box space.

Air is then directed through the filter’s 6-inch outlet through an aerodynamically-engineered polyethylene tube directly to the engine’s twin air intakes. The tube comes complete with a fitting for the factory air temperature sensor.

The K&N RC-5173 conical air filter is the key to the system. The unique design of K&N filters feature multiple layers of oiled cotton media used to capture dirt and dust and not allow the contaminants into the engine. The cotton fabric is sandwiched between pleated aluminum screen. Pleating increases surface area which in turn prolongs service intervals. A pleated air filter also exposes substantially more surface area compared to a flat element like foam.

All K&N 57 series intakes, including the 57-2592, have received CARB EO numbers and are street legal in all 50 states.

The FIPK kit uses all factory air intake mounting points so no drilling is required

Installation takes around 90 minutes and can be completed with only a few hand tools

This air intake is relatively easy to install, usually in 90 minutes or less using the F-150’s existing factory attachment points. Only a few common hand tools are required for installation.

The only maintenance required for the FIPK system is a quick and easy air filter service. At around 100,000 miles (which can vary depending on your driving conditions) just grab a K&N filter care service kit to refresh and re-oil your air filter -- bringing it back to like new condition and ready for more miles of driving.

The K&N 57-2592 is designed to fit the following vehicles:

2015 FORD F150 3.5L V6 Fuel Injection - Turbo

2015 FORD F150 3.5L V6 Fuel Injection - Turbo
