The "Black Dragon", as it is called, has under gone major suspension work, custom panel building, and hours of paint work. To support the heavy frame and body, the suspension was upgraded with some beefy support bars and heavy duty air bags. Once that was accomplished, an SRT10 motor and brakes were added. Next, came the daunting task of setting up the steering column and foot controls. Tom mentioned that the goal was to eliminate the, "sitting on top like a bus," feeling and get the driver down in the vehicle. The controls were fit specifically for the driver. Once everything was mocked up Tom says, "The 1944 Mack was sent off to Nice Rides Restorations for the 'Dripping Black' single stage" paint. It took some serious skill to lay down this flawless single stage paint; not to mention, the gold leaf and chrome work.
This custom Mack fire truck was featured and SEMA 2011 and will be displayed in plenty of parades and car shows alike around the nation. Tom mentioned, "The fire truck will be the featured vehicle at the upcoming Super Nationals in Albuquerque, NM February 3rd through February 5th. Then the fire truck is heading to Kansas City for the World of Wheels February 10, 11 & 12th." So keep your eye out for this awesome ride.
Tom believes, "Listening to the wants and needs of our customers and building the projects to their expectations," is what makes his company special. Other major people that deserve recognition for this build are Dare Wolleson and Matt Wagner. One of the unique components we would like to point out is the universal K&N high flow air filter. Tom claimed, "We have used K&N filters for our daily drivers and race cars for years, so choosing K&N seemed the natural choice." K&N makes over 1200 universal air filters for automotive and powersports applications. These air filters come in handy when space is limited. Rob and Brandy own Ding Masters located in Banning, Ca. They offer the usual auto body services such as paint, window tint, and dent removal; hence the name Ding Masters. Running an auto body shop is like running a tattoo parlor; in that, you have the opportunity to get creative with your work. Many consumers like to customize their vehicles and what better way to do so than add a custom paint job. Ding Masters got pretty creative with this 2000 Ford Excurison. It not only brings a dream to life, but proves that they produce excellent results when it comes to vehicle customization. Many aftermarket products were used to complete this special build, such as; a K&N air filter, Super Swamper tires, MHT wheels, Fiberine custom fiberglass top, Xenia Pacific custom vehicle wrap, and Conti-tech air bags. The aquatic theme can be found inside and out. The interior can only be described as a luxurious sea adventure. There is a wraparound bench with a cocktail table and plenty of head room for passengers. Riding in the back of the "Seascursion" must be like taking a ride in an underwater limousine.
Charles Young, from Ding Masters, mentioned, "The vehicle mainly sits at the Ding Master collision center for advertising purposes." This is a great advertising tool. How could you possibly miss this huge aquarium parked on a street corner? I must say, it is quite impressive to see in person. This truck is a glimpse of what goes on after hours in the Ding Master shop. Long hours were put into building and preparing this rig for SEMA. K&N understands that engine protection is the number one priority. E-1997 has excellent air filtration through the use of a depth loading technology. Jack said, "In the 40 plus years I've been involved in Motorsports, I have raced in the AHRA, the NHRA, and I currently own and race in the local Lucas Oil/Super Comp Association of Southern California that I formed in 1998. It is a venue for any and all racers who race in the Super Comp class to race in a club type environment. Some racers can't do an NHRA race, so I give the racers the same racers they would compete against at those events- very tough competition, and two races within one weekend. And most importantly, a very good payday should they go the rounds."
When discussing his more memorable career highlights, Jack said, "There are so many memorable moments that may be little to some; I have never won an NHRA race, but have won a Super Comp Series race and was runner up twice, plus my car won 'Best Engineered' at the LODRS race in Bakersfield in 2006, which was a great honor, especially for a home built car. My son Jeff and I share the driving duties; Jeff won the Lucas Oil/Super Comp Association Top Qualifier Shoot-Out race in 2007. In that same year we also won the 'Best Appearing' car award from the Lucas Oil/Super Comp Association racers voting ballot for the season ending Awards Banquet." We think all those competitors that are able to enjoy racing at Derencin's local Lucas Oil/Super Comp Association of Southern California would suggest that his concept of and ability to form the association should rank way up near the top of his accomplishments. We also love his story about what led him to using K&N products. "I had a engine blow up a long time ago," Jack stated, "because I used an off the shelf oil filter from a name brand filter company and a name brand auto parts store, and the filter collapsed, causing the engine to starve from oil. I have known Steve Williams from K&N for a really long time and he said to me, 'If you use an oil filter made for racing, that won't happen,' and he gave me a K&N oil filter. I never buy anything off the shelf for drag racing anymore." He went on to say, "What I appreciate about K&N is that the employees are racers making a product they would use themselves. They are not made outside of America, with cheap non-fitting parts, and if you have a question, or a simple installation problem you can call them and they will correct the problem or assist with it. I have never had any problems and I appreciate that fact. Along with K&N, I have been blessed with support from Lucas Oil, Gallio Motorsports, Good Year Tires and Westminster Racing Transmissions, and am deeply appreciative. Without them, I could not do what I love to do!" Find K&N products for your vehicle using the K&N application search then use the K&N dealer search to find a K&N dealer in your part of the world. |
