K&N Intake Kit for 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS is Guaranteed to Increase Horsepower

K&N Blackhawk Induction Air Intake System 71-3092

The K&N 71-3092 Blackhawk Induction Air Intake System offers more air to the engine than the stock air intake.

When car buffs gather to talk about muscle cars there is no doubt that the Chevrolet Camaro gets mentioned. Introduced during the 1967 model year, the two-door coupe or convertible came in three packages - RS, SS, and Z28. A 230-cubic inch (4.1-liter) inline-6, 302-cubic inch (4.9-liter), 307-cubic inch (5.0-liter), a 327-cubic inch (5.4-liter), 350-cubic inch (5.7-liter), 396-cubic inch (6.5-liters), or a 427-cubic inch (7.0-liter) V8 engine powered the first generation Camaro.

The 230-cubic inch inline-6 that delivers 140-horsepower or the 327-cubic inch V8 that generates 210-horsepower were the standard choices. The RS included hidden headlights, revised taillights with back-up lights under the rear bumper, an RS badge, and exterior bright trim. The SS was a performance package that included a 350-cubic inch or 396-cubic inch V8 engine and chassis upgrades for improved handling and to deal with the additional power. It was also available with non-functional air inlets on the hood, special striping, and an SS badge. The Z28 was the performance package that included modifications so that it could compete in the SCCA Trans-Am series races. The standard engine was a solid-lifter 302 V8, which was mated to a 4-speed transmission. It also included power disc brakes and two wide stripes down the hood and trunk lid.

Once installed, the kit will give you something to be proud of when opening the hood on your Camaro SS.

The variety of packages ensured that Chevrolet blanketed the personal car market with all possibilities from a nice, plain docile V6 to a fire breathing V8. Four generations of the Camaro were produced between 1967 and 2002. The fifth generation did not immediately follow because the F-Body platform was discontinued due to slowing sales caused by gas shortages and focus on better gas mileage. The belated fifth generation Camaros started driving off the assembly lines in 2010. The car had been totally redesigned and included a new platform. It was based on the 2006 Camaro Concept and 2007 Camaro Convertible Concept, which had somewhat of a retro appearance to the Camaros of the 1960s.

The new generation models included three trim levels - the LS, LT and SS. A 3.6-liter (220-cubic inch) V6 engine that delivers 312-horsepower powers the 2010 and 2011 LS and LT models. Buyers had a choice of either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift. A 6.2-liter (376-cubic inch) LS3 V8 engine that generates 426-horsepower runs the SS and is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. An L99 V8 engine that offers 400-horsepower is included in the automatic SS. The RS appearance package was available on the LT and SS trims and includes 20-inch wheels, halo rings around the Xenon headlamps, a spoiler, and a red RS or SS badge.

The sixth generation model was unveiled in May 2015 for the 2016 model year. Weighing 200 pounds less than previous Camaros, the 2016 version comes in three trim levels - the LT, SS, and ZL1.

There is a choice of four engines to power the car. They include:

  • 2.0-liter turbocharged Inline-4 that produces 275-horsepower
  • 3.6-liter V6 that delivers 335-horsepower
  • 6.2-liter LT1 V8 generates 455-horsepower, for the SS Model
  • A supercharged LT4 engine based on the Corvette Z06 is for the ZL1

No doubt owners of the newest Camaro want to keep the car in pristine shape. K&N offers the K&N 71-3092 Blackhawk induction air intake system to do just that. The free-flowing, mandrel-bent aluminum tube is guaranteed to increase horsepower and is designed to improve throttle response and engine sound. It includes a synthetic washable and reusable air filter that lasts for up to 100,000 miles before service is required.

K&N also offers air filter cleaning kits that are specially formulated to cleanse the filter every 100,000 miles, depending on driving conditions.

The low restriction air intake system supplies the engine with a larger amount of air than the stock air intake. It comes with black components and a heat shield for the air filter as well as a textured black powder-coated welded tube that accommodates the factory mass air sensor and crank case vent hose. There is also an engraved K&N plate that gives the intake system a high-performance appearance.

The 71-3092 Blackhawk induction air intake system can be installed in about 90 minutes using the existing factory mounting points and common hand tools.

The 71-3092 intake kit is designed for the following vehicles:

K&N Fuel Filter for 2014-2015 Ram ProMaster Cleans Fuel Before It Reaches Your Engine

K&N Fuel Filter

The K&N PF-4400 Fuel Filter is a factory replacement fuel filter that blocks contaminants including rust, dirt, scale and other foreign materials from invading the fuel system and engine of 2014-2015 Ram ProMaster vans.

The Ram ProMaster is a van similar to the Fiat Ducato. The main difference between the ProMaster and the Ducato is that a 3.6-liter, 24-valve V6 gasoline Chrysler Pentastar engine powers the ProMaster. The engine is mated to a Chrysler 62TE 6-speed automatic transmission. An Iveco 3.0-liter, 16-valve L4 diesel JTD engine called the EcoDiesel by Chrysler mated to the M40 6-speed manual transmission is available as an optional powertrain.

It is offered in three wheelbases –- 118-inch, 136-inch, and 159-inch. It also includes four different body lengths –- 195-inch, 213-inch, 236-inch, and 250-inch. The two longest body lengths come with the 159-inch wheelbase and two different heights –- 88-inch and 99-inch.

The only van in its class with front-wheel drive, it comes in five body configurations:

Cargo Van (available in all sizes)
Window Van/Glazed Van (159-inch wheelbase and 99-inch roof height)
Chassis-Cab (136-inch wheelbase)
Cut-Away (159-inch wheelbase)
Passenger Van

K&N offers the PF-4400 fuel filter for the 2014 and 2015 Ram ProMaster 1500 van. It features a high-performance cellulose glass media that helps trap contaminants including rust, dirt, scale, and other foreign materials from traveling from the gas tank through the fuel system to the engine. If these impurities are not stopped, they could cause rapid wear of the fuel pump and fuel injectors. This could result in failure of the fuel pump or injectors and a vehicle that will not run.

The filter is designed to replace the factory filter. The filter is 6.875-inches in length, permits a high flow rate of fuel and includes high capacity filter pleats for excellent fuel filtration. It is backed by a 90-day replacement warranty for diesel applications.

The K&N PF-4400 fuel filter fits the following vehicles:

2015 Ram Promaster 1500 3.0L L4 Diesel
2014 Ram Promaster 1500 3.0L L4 Diesel

K&N Filters Sponsors the 2016 AMA EnduroCross Season Again

2016 AMA EnduroCross season

You won't want to miss the 2016 AMA EnduroCross season.

The ultimate multitaskers of the motorcycle world may just be EnduroCross racers. The amalgamated name is an appropriate combination of enduro and motocross. The hybrid sport of EnduroCross takes the elemental obstacles of enduro racing - rocks, logs, water, and dirt and arranges them into an arena with the jumps, berms, and compact spaces of motocross. For good measure, the technical skill of a trials competition is included in the mix.

K&N is returning as a sponsor of the AMA EnduroCross Championship Series for 2016. As the official air filter of the racing series, K&N is excited about the competition, which kicks off on August 27. The first leg of the 2016 EnduroCross season will be contested in Duluth, Georgia and the series includes stops in eight US states. There is a decidedly left coast bias to the schedule with six of the eight races being staged in the west. Since the AMA National Enduro series is contested primarily in the eastern and central time zones, the EnduroCross series is a great opportunity for Western race fans to share in the fun.

Cody Webb is the two-time defending AMA EnduroCross Champion and will fight to defend his title in 2016. Webb takes the term multitasking to an entirely new level. Not only is he a national champion in both MotoTrial and EnduroCross, Webb is also a recent university graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering. Come to think of it, Webb's accomplishments go beyond multitasking. The guy is a true renaissance man.

Toyota Tundra

If you own a car, truck, bike, or anything else with an engine, we probably make a filter for it. Use the K&N vehicle search tool to find what K&N makes for your needs.

The EnduroCross series is ultra-competitive, with a number of riders possessing the talent to take the championship. The 2015 title was decided in the last race with Webb holding off Colton Haaker's hard-charging bid to capture the big trophy. Along with Webb and Haaker, Mike Brown, and Cory Graffunder are other returning key contenders for the 2016 title. Because of the multi-disciplinary nature of EnduroCross, the sport attracts competitors who have cut their teeth in various forms of racing.

One of the biggest reasons for the buzz surrounding the upcoming season is the return of Taddy Blazusiak to the starting grid. Blazusiak is a 5-time EnduroCross champion who took a one-year hiatus in 2015 to focus on other forms of racing. The fact that his front wheel will again be touching the starting gate in EnduroCross arenas is reason for excitement. The clash between Polish-born Blazusiak and the American Webb should provide even more fireworks in the EnduroCross series in 2016.

If you are even a casual race fan, give EnduroCross a look at one of the series venues. It's a high-octane smorgasbord of exciting obstacles and skilled racers.

And if you need an air filter for your bike or truck, check out the K&N search by vehicle tool to find the right part for your vehicle.

Think You Know the Ford Mustang? Take Our Quiz and See How Much You Really Know

K&N oil filter

The K&N HP-3001 oil filter, with its innovative exposed nut design for easy removal, fits many Mustangs from 1965 through 1995, including 5.0-liter and 2.3-liter engines.

The first model year of the Mustang?

Contrary to popular belief, the first model year for the Ford Mustang was 1965. While Mustangs produced between March 9th and July 31st of 1964 are often referred to as 1964 ½ Ford Mustangs, however, these models are considered 1965 Mustangs by Ford. K&N manufacturers oil filters for the 1965 Mustang under part number HP-3001. K&N also produces air cleaner elements for the HiPo 289ci, standard 289ci, and six-cylinder engines.

K&N round air filter

Believe it or not, but K&N continues to manufacture the E-1550 air filter, which only fits the 1975 and 1976 Ford Mustang II fitted with the 302 V8 engine. So chances are good K&N makes a filter for your ride.

Who has more "friends" than you?

Mustang is the world's most-liked vehicle on Facebook. We'd like to invite you to visit K&N on Facebook as well, where you'll be among the first to see new products, read interviews with K&N racers, check-out fabulous street and show cars and trucks and get event results and recaps.

How did a TV show help save Mustang?

The TV show Charlie's Angels is credited by Ford for increasing Mustang sales. In the show, Farrah Fawcett's character drove a Mustang II Cobra II. While not highly regarded (then or now) by enthusiasts the Mustang II did keep the Mustang line alive during some dark years, selling over one million units. K&N has the air filter E-1550 available for early Mustang II V8s and E-1180 replacement air filter for later V8s, while all utilize the same HP-3001 oil filter.

What was the longest period Mustang was based on one platform?

The Fox Mustang platform was on the market the longest of any in the Mustang's history, 1979 through 1993 (2004 if you count the SN-95 redesigned of the Fox platform). The Fox platform was originally developed for the mid-sized Ford Fairmont and Mercury Zephyr coupes, sedans, and wagons. K&N offers performance air intake systems for many Fox platform Mustangs, starting with the 1986 model year. Like the 57-2502 for 1990 Ford Mustangs with the 5.0-liter engine.

K&N reusable billet aluminum oil filter

The K&N SS-3001 reusable billet aluminum filter housing, which offers both style and high-quality filtration, fits many Mustangs ranging from 1965 right up until 1995.

Do today's engines out-perform older race motors?

Most fans of classic motorsports hold the 1970 SCCA Trans-Am Challenge as among the all-time most competitive of all road racing. All of Detroit's Big Three were actively supporting teams, and not just with free cars, but cash and special parts. Both Chrysler brands participated, Chevrolet was there with the Camaro and Pontiac entered a Canadian Firebird (where it could be ordered with a rules-limited 5.0-liter engine). The two chief protagonists in 1970 were AMC's Javelin and the Ford Boss 302 Mustang. Ford took the title with a 302 engine that produced 440 horsepower. Today you can buy a Mustang with the latest 302 V8 that produces 435 horsepower, meets all emissions standards, and won't need to be rebuilt every week. If you're looking to add horsepower to your modern Coyote motor, K&N offers two performance air intake systems, 63-2590 and if you prefer a bright finish, 69-3535TP.

K&N AirCharger air intake system

The K&N AirCharger air intake system, part number 63-2590, has been dyno-proven to add and estimated 17.41 rear-wheel horsepower to a 2015 Ford Mustang 5.0-liter.

Do you know about Mustang's run-in with the IRS?

Since 2015, the Mustang has come standard with Independent Rear Suspension (IRS)(for an explanation of IRS, watch the last 10 minutes of "My Cousin Vinny"). However before that, from 1999 to 2004, SVT Cobras featured independent rear suspension, unique to only the Cobra. SVT engineers devised an IRS that could bolt directly in place of the solid axle setup used on Mustangs since 1979.The result was the best-handling Mustang so far. If you're lucky enough to own, say, a 2004 SVT Cobra, K&N has the 57-2545 intake system that will add an estimated 30.3 rear-wheel horsepower to your ride.

Greatest Mustang movie ever?

There's little doubt that "Bullitt" is the greatest Mustang movie of all time. Who can argue with Steve McQueen squealing, sliding, and burning rubber in a Highland Green 1968 Mustang GT 390 V8. A little trivia: you can tell who is driving in the interior by the rear view mirror: down (and visible) is McQueen. Up and no driver visible is a stunt man. Also the route the chase follows is actually a patchwork of roads across San Francisco, impossible to drive in the time frame of the movie. But no matter where you drive, there's a K&N air, fuel, oil, or cabin air filter to fit your Mustang (or whatever you drive). Check out all of K&N's products using the search by vehicle tool to find the right part for your needs.

K&N FIPK air intake system

The K&N 57-2571 FIPK air intake system has been evaluated on K&N's chassis dyno and produces an estimated 56.96 horsepower in 2007 through 2009 5.4-liter Shelby Ford Mustang.

But in which film did Mustang debut?

Actually, the first movie in which the Mustang appeared was the 1964 James Bond film "Goldfinger." It was part of Ford's extensive product launch of the Mustang. In exchange for the publicity, Ford provided a pair of Lincoln Continentals: a 1964 model for filming and a 1963 model that was destroyed in the film's car crusher scene. So whether you own a 1963 or 1964 Lincoln Continental, K&N has a choice of three oil filters for you. There's the legendary wrench-off HP-3001 filter, the high-flow PS-3001, or for show cars the SS-3001 reusable billet aluminum filter housing.

K&N performance intake system

Owners of a 2003 Ford Mustang Cobra can realize an estimated 30.28 horsepower increase with the installation of the K&N a performance intake system part number 57-2545.

Where else did a Modular motor end up?

The 4.6-liter V8 version of Ford's breakthrough modular engine family was fitted to the Ford Mustang from 1996 to 2004. But there were many other applications of that engine and not all in the Ford family: a version of the 4.6L V8 was fitted to two sedans in Great Britain: the MG ZT and Rover 75. K&N carries air filters for both, part number E-0945, which also fits Mustangs and many other Fords of the era. So if K&N carries filters for obscure British cars, they'll have filters for your car.

How much more power can you add to a 500 horsepower 2007 – 2009 Ford Shelby GT500 with a simple bolt-on?

A lot, actually. The K&N 57-2571 performance cold air intake kit adds an astounding estimated 56.96 rear-wheel horsepower @ 5900 RPM!

You can view all the air intakes that K&N makes for the Ford Mustang at the Air Intake Systems for the Ford Mustang page and all the air filters that K&N makes for the Ford Mustang at the Air Filters for the Ford Mustang page. You can view all the K&N performance products for any vehicle by using the Search by Vehicle tool and you can find a local K&N retailer by plugging your location into the K&N Dealer Search as well.

Bill McAnally Racing Sweeps Podium at Evergreen Speedway

Todd Gilliland at Evergreen Speedway

Todd Gilliland leads the field at the start of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Evergreen Speedway in Washington.

It was a good weekend for Bill McAnally Racing at Evergreen Speedway in Washington. The three drivers from BMR swept the podium in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race.

Todd Gilliland won his third K&N Pro Series West race in row, leading every lap of the NAPA Auto Parts 150. Chris Eggleston, the reigning K&N Pro Series West champion, was the runner-up. Rookie Riley Herbst was third, giving him his first podium finish in nine races this season.

Todd Gilliland and Chris Eggleston at Evergreen Speedway

Bill McAnally Racing drivers Todd Gilliland (16) and Chris Eggleston (50) battle for the lead at the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Evergreen Speedway in Washington.

"It was fun. It was good to get BMR 1-2-3 here at Evergreen Speedway," Herbst said. "I can't thank everybody up at Roseville, Sacramento for all their hard work. This Nos Energy Drink Toyota Camry was really good."

Gilliland won the pole and ran away from the field. He has won five of nine K&N Pro Series West races and has six overall. He also won the K&N Pro Series East season opener in Florida. Even though Gilliland never lost the lead at Evergreen Speedway, he said it was a challenging race.

Todd Gilliland wins pole at Evergreen Speedway

Todd Gilliland won the pole for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Evergreen Speedway in Washington. He has won five pole positions in K&N Pro Series West races this season.

"It was nerve-racking for sure," Gilliland said. "I had to be confident. The tires that I saved really paid off at the end."

Eggleston battled Herbst for second place throughout the race. There were six caution periods for 29 laps, but after each restart, Gilliland pulled away easily.

"A lot of those guys, they try to charge really hard," Eggleston said. "The 19 (Herbst) left really early, really hard both segments. We had to kind of play it safe, make sure we kept the tires under us while they went out and burned their stuff up."

Eggleston posted his seventh top-five finish of the season and is in third place in the K&N Pro Series West standings. In the race at Evergreen, he said the last caution period on lap 121 was the difference in the race.

Todd Gilliland wins NASCAR K&N Pro Series at Evergreen Speedway

Todd Gilliland won the NASCAR K&N Pro Series race at Evergreen Speedway in Washington. He leads the K&N Pro Series West standings after nine races and has won five K&N Pro Series West races and three in a row.

"We kind of came to the 16. Maybe if that last yellow didn't come out," Eggleston said. "We were really good on the long runs. We were terrible on the short runs. Maybe if that last yellow didn't come out we could have given him a run for his money. Hats off to the 16 (Gilliland) crew. They did a great job. Bill McAnally Racing finished 1-2-3. That's a pretty good weekend. Not, overall, a bad a night."

All the BMR drivers acknowledged the successful results of each team. It was definitely a night for all of them to celebrate.

"I thought we had something for second," Herbst said after the race on Saturday night. "Give it to 16 and Todd today. They were all by themselves today. The end of the day was good, our first top three. We're getting some good momentum to end the season, so I'm happy about it."

Gilliand has a 12-point lead over Ryan Partridge in the K&N Pro Series West standings after nine races. Partridge was fifth in the race at Evergreen Speedway.

"It's really nice, winning three in a row now," Gilliand said. "It's really good. After a bad weekend in Sonoma, it put us right back in the points lead."

The next K&N Pro Series West race is the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 at Douglas County Speedway in Oregon on Aug. 27.
