K&N Air Intake System Squeezes Some of the Last HP from the 2016 Camaro SS 6.2L

The conical filter is attached to an intake tube with an attractive silver powder-coated finish

The increase in horsepower can be credited largely to the oversized conical air filter

The Generation V 6.2L small block V8 is the latest chapter in the long, historic legacy of the small-block Chevy engine that stretches back to the mid-1950s. The latest design provides the 2016 Camaro SS not only with immense performance but unheard of efficiency from such a powerful engine.

The 455 horsepower LT1 is similar in architecture to the LS family of small-block engines which it superseded, but with a unique aluminum block casting and aluminum cylinder heads, oiling system, and an aggressive 11.5:1 compression ratio. It also incorporates advanced technologies such as direct fuel Injection and continuously variable valve timing. And unlike many other auto manufacturers, GM believes there is plenty of development left in the traditional two valve push rod V8 and proves it with each new engine.

To draw an adequate volume of air an entirely new intake manifold design was developed, which provides a straighter path into the combustion chamber. With as much time and development effort that GM engineers put into the LT1, one would assume that the intake system would leave no opportunity for improvement. But it does. There’s an additional way to improve the performance of your 2016 Camaro SS: the K&N 69-4534TP air intake system, which has been chassis dyno-tested proven to deliver an estimated 15.16 rear-wheel horsepower gain over an otherwise stock 2016 Camaro SS.

The K&N 69-4534TP air intake system replaces the restrictive factory air filter and air intake housing on the 2016 Camaro SS. K&N AirChargers significantly improve incoming air flow as well as reduce turbulence in the intake tube.

The filter and heat shield are designed to fit in the location of the OEM air box

Installation of the K&N 69-4534TP is a snap and can be completed in less than a Saturday morning

The air intake first enters a chrome capped K&N high-flow air filter sited within a heat shield that’s installed into the original air box space. A bulk of the horsepower increase can be credited to the oversized conical air filter manufactured from multiple layers of oiled cotton filter media - which offers less resistance than traditional filters. The multi-layered red cotton material also filters out microparticles that could damage your engine, to help ensure a long engine life. Each design is verified through K&N’s in-house filtration testing lab, which adheres to ISO 5011 standards, ensuring that your K&N filter provides high airflow without putting engine protection at risk.

Air is then directed through an aerodynamically-verified polished aluminum intake tube into the engine’s throttle body for an estimated 15 horsepower gain. The intake tube includes fittings for the factory mass air sensor and crank case vent hose. Best of all, the K&N 69-4534TP air intake system can be installed in 90 minutes or less with simple hand tools

In addition to more power, this air intake system improves engine sound with more aggressive and deeper acoustics during acceleration.

And once you’ve installed your K&N cold air intake system you’ve eliminated the need to buy another air filter for the life of your covered 2016 Camaro SS. The only maintenance is a service you can do yourself in no time at all. At intervals of 100,000 miles (depending upon your driving conditions) use the K&N 99-5000 recharger kit to clean and refresh your air filter, preparing it for another 100,000 miles of driving. The K&N air filter you purchase is designed to last for the lifetime of your vehicle, which K&N guarantees will perform for up to 10 years or 1,000,000 miles without requiring replacement.

The K&N 69-4534TP cold air intake is designed for the following vehicles:

K&N Engineering Donates $100,000 to Help Send Children of Fallen Soldiers to College

K&N's Jesse Spungin awards the check to Robert Moeller on behalf of Fallen Patriots

K&N's Jesse Spungin awards the check to Robert Moeller who accepts it on behalf of Fallen Patriots

The freedoms that we love so much here in America are not guaranteed. They are earned through the sacrifices of men and women in the United States Armed Forces. Too often, these brave Patriots are killed in action, never to return to the families that are left behind. Fortunately, several organizations have made it their goal to help these families after the loss of a loved that was killed in action. One such organization is the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation (Fallen Patriots).

Fallen Patriots was founded in 2002 to honor the sacrifices of our fallen military heroes by assisting their children with the funds necessary to attend college. Since their inception, Fallen Patriots has provided more than $15 million in aid, including scholarships, grants, and counseling to young men and women who have lost a parent in the line of duty. K&N Engineering is an avid supporter of our military and over the years has supported multiple organizations.

K&N Engineering has donated $100,000 dollars to Fallen Patriots to help change the lives of those left behind. “It is important to everyone at K&N to give back to the families who sacrificed so much for us,” said K&N Chief Sales and Marketing Officer Jesse Spungin. “For almost 50 years, K&N has been an American company and we owe it to these men and women. Helping an organization like Fallen Patriots is one way we can help the legacy of these American Heroes live on in the lives of their children.”

The cost of a college education is now more expensive than ever and to be able to assist with that is a goal that is extremely important to Fallen Patriots.

“With the average college cost gap totaling $32,000, the need for financial support is significant,” according to a spokesperson for Fallen Patriots. “Partners’ continued dedication, in ways ranging from financial support to creating awareness, has helped Fallen Patriots continue to fulfil their mission to ensure a future for surviving military children.”

K&N is proud to be a part of this effort in helping give the children of fallen patriots a chance to go to college and further their education. For more information about the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation, visit them at fallenpatriots.org.

Winning Ways for K&N-Sponsored Supercar and GT Racing Teams in Australia

The Supercheap Auto Ford Falcon, with Chaz Mostert behind the wheel, took home a win in the final

The Supercheap Auto Ford Falcon, with Chaz Mostert behind the wheel, took home a win in the final

K&N Filters-backed teams Prodrive Racing Australia and Audi Sport Customer Racing claimed spots on the top step on the podium at one of the most prestigious events run in the country on the weekend, the Australian Grand Prix.

The Australian Grand Prix is the opening round of the Formula One Championship each year, with F1 supported by the marquee local race classes, Supercars and Australian GT.

Racing the Supercheap Auto Racing Ford Falcon in Supercars, Chaz Mostert ended his weekend with a win in the final of the four sprint races over the weekend, cementing third in points for the weekend.

While no Supercars title points are on offer at the Australian Grand Prix, it is always a fierce battle at the Albert Park circuit and a chance for Prodrive Racing Australia to develop their Falcons for the second round of the championship in a few weeks.

“This weekend is all about building momentum and making our cars better and better,” Mostert said.

“I’m really happy with how we ended up. The crew and my engineer Adam De Borre all did an awesome job to get the car together and working like it did.”

With the championship heading to the tight Symmons Plains track in Tasmania for round two of the title, Mostert knows there is still hard work ahead for Prodrive and his Supercheap Auto Racing crew and admits his #55 Falcon still has some weaknesses.

“To get the race win and then third for the weekend is awesome. There are still a few little things that we need to work on but I feel like we have a good direction for the next few events.”

Audi Sport Racing Australia announced a partnership with K&N Filters before the Australian GT races

In Australian GT, Audi Sport Racing Australia kicked off the weekend in perfect style – announcing K&N Filters as its newest partner and locking out the first three spots in qualifying.

The team remained the benchmark for the remainder of the weekend, with a 1-2-3 in the weekend’s opening race, a victory in race three and an overall round victory for #73 Valvoline Audi R8 LMS of Kelvin van der Linde and Geoff Emery.

"Kelvin did an awesome job this weekend," Emery said.

"Really it was just up to me to keep it on the black stuff and bring it home! It was a great weekend!"

The Supercars Championship resumes in a week and a half’s time for round two of the title at Symmons Plains in Tasmania.

Our Australian GT team on the other hand has a few weeks off before heading to the opposite side of the country to compete at Barbagallo Raceway, outside of Perth, Western Australia for the third round of the title.

Audi Sport Australia Moves to K&N to Improve Response, Performance of R8 LMS GT3

Both engineers and drivers agreed K&N air filters imroved the Audi's performance

K&N Filters being installed on the Audi Sport Australia R8 LMS GT based on driver feedback

The official Audi Sport Customer Racing program for the Australian GT championship has selected K&N Filters to equip its team of up to seven Audi R8 LMS race cars based on the California company’s reputation for quality, reliability, and performance.

Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia, operating out of the Melbourne Performance Centre, runs the GT3-spec Audis in the Australian GT as one of only a few customer sports programs for the marque outside of Europe, and also supports more than 20 Audis being raced across Australia and New Zealand.

Powered by an all-aluminum DOHC 5.2L V10 engine, the Audi R8 LMS GT race car puts out up to 553 horsepower and boasts 369 lb-ft of torque. Similar R8 LMS GT race cars brought Audi the GT Daytona Manufacturer’s Championship in 2016, beating Ferrari and Porsche.

There are seperate series for sprint races, endurances races, and for slightly older cars

Australia has one of the most competitive GT racing scenes in the world, with three seperate series

K&N Filters has developed a specific filter to suit the R8 LMS GT air box. According to team principal Troy Russell, the move to K&N Filters in the R8 LMS GT has been a popular decision based on driver and engineer feedback. "The initial feedback from the drivers has been better response and better performance from their R8s since fitting the new filters,” Russell said.

As well as the quality air filters, Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia has also turned to K&N Power Kleen to ensure their filters are always in prime condition. "Because our products are washable and reusable, Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia will be able to go a whole racing season on the same set of filters, instead of replacing them each race,” K&N Engineering's Business Manager for the Asia & South Pacific regions, Richard Smith said.

GT Racing in Australia has taken off in recent years, with three separate championships taking place in 2017, the Australian GT Championship for sprint races, the Australian Endurance Championship for longer races with driver changes, and the GT Trophy series, shorter races for older spec cars. The shortest GT race runs for just 25 minutes, while the marquee endurance event in Australia is the punishing Bathurst 12 Hour at the four-mile Mount Panorama Circuit west of Sydney.

K&N developed unique filters on behalf of Audi Sport Australia for their customer R8 LMS GT cars

The K&N badge is there for all to see, just above the filters created especially for Audi Sport

"K&N Engineering is constantly developing products for all makes and models. We're proud of the extensive range of filters we have for brands all around the world including for Audi's flagship GT cars, the R8 LMS," Smith said.

Owners of Audi R8 models with V10 engines can see the same type of increase in response and performance as the professional race team by installing a pair of K&N E-0669 air filters on their German supercars.

Todd Gilliland Wins K&N Pro Series West Race at Kern County

Todd Gilliland won the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Kern County Raceway Park.

Todd Gilliland won the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Kern County Raceway Park in California for the second year in a row and moved into first place in the West Series standings. He was followed by a pair of K&N Pro Series West rookies, including his teammate at Bill McAnally Racing.

Bill McAnally Racing drivers finished 1-2 for the second K&N Pro Series West race in a row. Gilliland, who won the eighth K&N Pro Series race of his career, won the pole and took the lead at Kern County Raceway Park on lap 95 of the NAPA Auto Parts 150. The race was extended six laps and had a green-white-checkered flag finish.

Gilliland, the reigning K&N Pro Series West champion, said Kern County Raceway Park fits his racing style.

“It’s fast. It’s pretty big and it’s really racy,” Gilliland said. “I really enjoy all those things. I feel it’s probably one of the best race tracks we go to.”

Gilliland led the first 10 laps of the race. Michael Self passed Gilliland for the lead on lap 11 and held it for 84 laps. Self led the most laps in the race. But on lap 95, Gilliland regained the lead and was out front for the final 62 laps. He led for 72 laps in the race.

“We were just trying to save our tires as much as we could,” Gilliland said. “It felt like I was going way too hard. We ended up getting by him there and it all worked out. Usually it doesn’t work out that easy or the way you want it to.”

Derek Knaus, a 15-year-old rookie, was second. He started the race in sixth and moved his way up throughout the race.

“The beginning of the race it was a little crazy,” Knaus said. “Todd was kind of lifting a little earlier than what I expected. I thought he was crazy, but then on the long run, that’s what helped him. He saved way more than I did. He had a little more turn in the car. He was just a little more freer off.”

Todd Gilliland won the pole and led for 72 laps in the K&N Pro Series West race at Kern County.

In the first K&N Pro Series West race of the season at Tucson Speedway, Bill McAnally Racing teammates Chris Eggleston and Gilliland were first and second. Eggleston won the season opener in Tucson. It was the first top-five K&N Pro Series West finish for Knaus.

“That’s the main thing. We’re teammates,” Knaus said. “We got to race each other clean.”

Will Rodgers, another K&N Pro Series West rookie, was third. He was fifth in the race at Tucson Speedway.

“I think we actually had the car that could go to the front,” Rodgers said. “If I had just a little bit more experience, it’s my first time at the race track, so I’m still kind of learning the whole thing, the way it flows, where the fast line is at the end of the night on old tires. This thing could definitely take this win. But for our first time, we are very happy how it panned out.”

Eggleston, a 10-time winner in the K&N Pro Series West, finished fourth and David Mayhew was fifth.

Gilliland has a two-point lead over Eggleston in the K&N Pro Series West standings after two races.

“It feels great,” Gilliland said. “That’s something we built on last year from winning the first three West races. That’s something I feel like we have now and we will keep digging.”

The next race in the K&N Pro Series West is the NAPA Auto Parts Twin 100s at Irwindale Speedway in California.
