William Byron Dominates NKNPSE Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 150 at Greenville Pickens

NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, rookie William Byron managed to maneuver into the lead immediately after the start and held on all the way to the Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 150 checkered flag

It was Daniel Hemric who earned the pole position and 21 means 21 Pole Award presented by Coors Light with his qualifying time of 20.796 seconds at 86.555 mph

In only his second race in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, rookie William Byron managed to maneuver into the lead immediately after the start and held onto his position all the way to the checkered flag. Greenville Pickens Speedway, a half-mile semi-banked oval, in Greenville, South Carolina has a way of thrusting up and coming talent into the spot light. Of the 14 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East races held at Greenville Pickens Speedway, 13 have produced different winners. Names like Joey Logano and Darrel Wallace Jr. are on that list, and only one other driver besides Byron has led from start to finish.

It was Daniel Hemric who earned the pole position and 21 means 21 Pole Award presented by Coors Light with his qualifying time of 20.796 seconds at 86.555 mph. However, at the finish line Hemric would bring it in for a fifth place finish. Gray Gaulding, having qualified 11th, brought the number 12 Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Toyota across the finish line 1.026 seconds behind Byron to take the runner up position. Also making it onto the podium in third was Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender Dalton Sargeant. Sargeant is fresh off of a win in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West division. The 17-year old Florida native drives for HScott Motorsports in the NKNPS East series and has earned himself a seat with the first-year team Jefferson Pitts Racing in the NKNPS West series.

Of his win at Greenville Pickens Speedway, William Byron said “I couldn’t imagine being here 2-1/2 years ago, I just started racing, and winning a K&N Pro Series race is a dream come true.” Byron credited his success to the Liberty University Chevrolet team and the number 9 car saying “We had a really good car the whole race. We worked really hard the first two races to bring a good car. Once I did my job, we got it done.”

Team owner/manager Randy Hawkins has equipped the entire N-Fab AmPro Yamaha race team with K&N air and oil filters. Ensuring the team’s Yamaha YZ450F off-road After two races in the 2015 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season Austin Hill sits on top of the points chase, followed by William Byron in second, and Dalton Sargeant in third. The next NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race will be on Saturday, April, 18th with the PittLite 125 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
