Stan Camp Ex-AMA Dirt Track Racer Supports Next Generation of Camp Racers
- Jan 18, 2010
As is the case so often in all forms of racing, it grows to be a family affair, passed from one generation to the next, with everyone doing their part along the way. And so it goes with Stan Camp, from Farmington, Illinois and his family, son Adam and daughters Austyn and Allyx.
Camp's wife Holly is a huge key to their family's racing program, she makes sure everyone has all the proper "mom-stuff" says Camp. Holly sees to it that everyone has food, clean clothes, all their ridding gear, plus she takes care of the registration. "I also could not do the directors job without Holly," says Camp. Camp is the Dirt Track Director for AMA's District 17.
Camp started racing in 1975, at age eight, with his older brother. He continued racing until 1984, riding as a junior in the AMA professional ranks. Camp went on to race stock cars for several years, until he got married, and ultimately gave up on racing altogether for a period of time.
It wasn't until his son and oldest daughter Austyn were old enough to start racing mini-bikes that the racing bug infected him once again. "I have won a couple district 17 vintage championships and numerous state championships," says Camp.
"My son Adam, who will turn 17 this year, he has been competing for ten years already. He finished second at the amateur nationals in the 250 modified class in the short track, and has also won the Vintage and 505cc District Championships."
"My youngest daughter Allyx, who is 13, started racing at the age of four. She has won the 125 four-stroke class and the 160 four-stroke class in district 17 competitions. She will be riding the 160 and 250 class next year."
"Real quick, I must mention my other daughter Austyn, who is 15. Austyn does not race anymore, but she provides enormous help to our overall efforts," adds Camp.
"K&N began supporting us last year and we are very appreciative. We use K&N oil and air filters on all our equipment."
"Adam is getting his pro license this year and we hope to start the season opener in Daytona this March. We also hope we can continue to represent K&N throughout the coming season."
