Pacific Offshore Super Series Kicks off Powerboat Racing at Lake Havasu

The Pacific Offshore Powerboat Racing Association (POPRA) began its 2008 Super Series season at Lake
Havasu, Arizona. Twenty boats each ran ten laps around a 4.9 mile oval. K&N
sponsored boat Worthy Risk took first place with an average lap speed of 87.10
mph in the Production 3 class.

When it was time to hit the water, all bows lined up in a single row running around 50 mph. “This is a standard offshore running start,” said Johnson. “The Production 3 class began its run in a new two-by-two NASCAR style start.” Teams are placed according to their finish in the previous race. Worthy Risk and the No. 28 race team were in the front row ready to take on the competition.
“The entire Production 3 class had its sights on turn one which was about three miles down the course,” said Johnson. “The first group went into turn one four wide with only inches between them.” The Worthy Risk team narrowly missed the No.10 boat and moved to the front of the line. Worthy Risk took the win.
“We use K&N Engineering air and oil filters,” said Johnson. “We can’t beat the additional performance and filtration K&N gives us each time we race.” The Worthy Risk team will be in Long Beach, California this coming July for the next POPRA series race
