K&N Racers Haagsma and Vernola Win Big in WORCS Final Round in Primm, NV

K&N is an active sponsor of several racers in the World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS). In the 2016 WORCS final round, a couple of those talented K&N-sponsored racers, Davi Haagsma and Katie Vernola, reached the top of the podium. The round was staged in Primm, Nevada at Buffalo Bill's Resort and Casino. The resort’s massive roller coaster served as a fitting backdrop for the thrilling racing that kicked up dirt in its shadow.

DAVID HAAGSMA

While K&N’s Davi Haagsma has won championships in nearly all of the SXS and ATV classes, one has remained just out of his reach. That is until now. Haagsma captured his first Pro SXS overall championship trophy with his win in Primm. It could not have come in tighter or more dramatic fashion as the round 10 win gave Haagma the season championship by a single point.

After garnering the holeshot, Haagsma raced like a man possessed and took advantage of the prime track conditions to hold the lead throughout the race. Haagsma outpaced Mickey Thomas who finished second both in the round and for the season. Haagsma was also blazing fast in the ATV final in Primm but was forced out of the race with mechanical problems. He won the Pro ATV Championship in 2015.

KATIE VERNOLA

In the Women’s Class, Katie Vernola was laser-focused in her pursuit of her first career victory. The Nevada desert proved to be just the place to secure that racing goal. The K&N-sponsored racer outpaced the other podium finishers, Amanda Sorenson and Sierra Romo. Romo’s third-place finish was good enough to secure her the championship.

Prior to this final round win, Vernola’s best finishes in the 2016 season were a second in Las Vegas and a third in Utah. To end this season with an impressive victory is certainly reason for excitement and optimism for Katie's 2017 WORCS campaign.
