Jordan Phillips Winding Up a Successful GNCC Professional 4X4 Racing Season
- Sep 30, 2016
If you have not experienced the racing at a Grand National Cross Country Series (GNCC) event, you are missing something good. The AMA sanctioned GNCC series is expansive, with 54 motorcycle classes, 40 ATV classes, and 8 UTV classes. Founded in 1973, the GNCC is America’s premier off-road racing series. One of the rising stars of the venerable series is Jordan Phillips. Phillips competes in the 4X4 Pro class and has had, in his words, a season with a “fair share of ups and downs.” With 11 rounds of the grueling 13 round season in the books, ups and downs are to be expected. Looking back, Phillips says, “The year started rough but I ended up turning it around at round three which was at my home track in Morganton, NC. I got my first win of the season there.” The rugged GNCC can take a toll on equipment and Phillips has not been immune from breakdowns. “Moving forward (from round three), we had some mechanical issues at the following two rounds.” However, resilience is one of the the earmarks of a great racer and Phillips again followed a season lull with an impressive rebound. “At round six in Indiana, we once again pulled off a win and took the overall in the morning race. I would definitely say that winning two races in this highly competitive class has been the highlight of my season so far.”
It’s no surprise that a company like K&N, with its foundation firmly rooted in performance and reliability, would partner with a talent like Phillips. “This is my third year working with K&N. I started using K&N filters during my first 4x4 Pro season back in 2014.” On why he is loyal to K&N Engineering, Phillips says, “It's an easy choice for me using K&N products. They have a long history in powersports success at all levels. The air filters provide more power, better filtration and they are very easy to clean!” Like any true competitor, Phillips has both short and long-term career goals. As for the remaining portion of the 2016 season, he says, “My immediate goals would be to win the last two GNCC races and place top 5 in series championship points. It won't be easy, but anything is possible.” Phillips is currently poised within striking distance of that goal with his current sixth place season position.
Phillips’ big picture goals are lofty. “My long-term goals would be to podium every event in 2017 and win the 2017 4x4 Pro championship! I also see myself venturing into the SXS world at some point.” SXS racing features four wheeled vehicles with seating for two, side by side. Racers are harnessed inside a roll cage. With a powerful combination of talent, drive, and vision, Jordan Phillips’ goals are certainly within his reach. Look for Phillips to continue his ascent in the racing world, with solid backing from elite sponsors like K&N. For your car, truck, motorcycle, ATV or UTV filtration needs, look to K&N’s search by vehicle tool to find exactly the right part. Remaining GNCC Races for 2016: |
