Harley-Davidson Dyna Models with K&N Performance Oil Filters Continue the Dynasty
- Mar 6, 2016
The all-American spirit of innovation and experimentation is perhaps no better expressed than in the development and history of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle. From a concept that came to Willie G. Davidson on his way home from a Sturgis trip in the late-1970s, the 1980 release of the FXB Sturgis started a family of factory customs that could be called a dynasty.
Since then, the company has been producing a range of FX (factory experimental) bikes that certainly appeal to the creativity and individualism of the American rider. Such examples are the original FXB Sturgis, and the Dyna Daytona, Custom, Low Rider, Super, Convertible and Glide. (See the applications list for more.) Most share a distinctive look with a black and silver paint scheme, and the Dyna had silver powder-coated and later, black frames. The Dyna chassis was introduced in 1991 and the current generation continues the family name.
K&N is serving this dynasty, and specifically the 1980-1998 Dyna with the KN-173B Performance Replacement Oil Filter. The KN-173B, a Premium Wrench-Off style oil filter with a 17mm hex nut welded on top, can handle traditional as well as synthetic and blended synthetic oils. It features an efficient high-flow synthetic filter media that helps to protect these belt-driven engines with superior flow and particle entrapment. It also has an anti-drain back valve to prevent dry starts and to keep oil from returning to the case when the engine is shut down. The filter is protected by a heavy-duty canister and base plate, with a double-rolled seal and further protected by the K&N limited warranty. The Harley-Davidson Museum description of the Sturgis includes ad copy that says “A badlands tested factory custom, from the only company that knows what ‘custom’ really means.” K&N knows too, and takes a custom approach to Harley-Davidson engine maintenance with the KN-173B. The KN-173B will replace these OEM parts: The KN-173B will fit the following Harley-Davidson motorcycles: To source K&N products for motorcycles online, use the K&N application search, then go to the K&N dealer search to find a K&N dealer near you. |
