Add Power to Partial Zero Emissions 2007-2009 Ford Focus with K&N Performance Air Intake System

K&N Engineering has released a High-Flow Intake System (69-3513TTK) in textured black for the 2007, 2008 and 2009 Ford Focus PZEV 2.0 liter engine. K&N dynamometer test show a 5.24 horsepower gain at 5400 rpm.

The heat shield is engineered to isolate the oversized K&N High-Flow Air Filter (RU-4950) from engine bay heat. K&N Air Intake systems are designed to increase filtering capacity and improve throttle response while providing excellent filtration. As air passes the K&N Air Filter, it travels through the textured black aluminum tube which is attached to the throttle body. The placement of the K&N Air Intake System ensures a steady amount of cooler outside air to the engine which translates into more power.

Defending Grand Prix Champ Misses Final at Latvijas Spidveja Centrs Stadium in Daugavpils, Latvia

Defending World Speedway Champion Jason Crump was eliminated by fellow Australian Leigh Adams and Polish Veteran Tomasz Gollob in the semi finals at Latvia in Poland. Finishing third in the semi meant that Crump’s night was over.

He was disappointed as he watched from the sidelines as the top four battled it out in the final. Adams went on to win the final ahead of current leader Nicki Pedersen, Gollob and Brit Scott Nicholls.

“Congratulations to Leigh, he won convincingly,” said Crump. “It was another one of those nights for me unfortunately. Once I got through to the semi final I had the third choice of gate so I knew then that I was in for a tough ride. There was not one race won from gate three all nights and 19 of the 23 races were won from gates one and two, but no excuses, that is racing.”

Crump uses K&N Engineering products. “The pressure is on, but I will not be doing anybody any favors during the battle for third position,” said Crump. “I may have won the World Championship in the past, but that does not mean I will be taking it easy. I use K&N Filters and want to continue our association with K&N as long as I am racing.”

The top two in the Grand Prix title chase widened the gap for Crump. “The positive for me is I made up a fair bit of ground for the third position in the championship chase,” he said. “I aim to claim that third spot at the next round.”

The next round of the World Championship chase takes place at Bydgoszcz, Poland on September 8.

Travis Kvapil Finished 11th in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Race at Bristol

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series racer Travis Kvapil had a strong run going at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee in his No.6 K&N Filters Ford F-150.

The win was in sight until it was taken away with a late race spin. Kvapil was in the top five in both practice sessions and qualified on the pole with a 15.840-second lap around the track. He also led 91 laps of the 200-lap race but finished in 11th place.

Kvapil had the lead until lap 26. The second caution of the day came out on lap 33. Everyone had a different idea for pit strategy, and the No.6 K&N Filters Ford F-150 sat ninth for the green-flag restart on lap 45.

Kvapil headed back toward the front of the pack. At lap 63 he was in third place and the third caution came out on lap 69. The green came back out on lap 74 and Kvapil took over 2nd place six laps later and had his eyes on the leader.

The fourth caution came out on lap 103 and the leader decided to pit. That put Kvapil with the lead for the restart on lap 108. The second half of the race was filled with cautions but Kvapil managed to hang-on to the lead. He dominated until lap 170 when the second-place truck of Kyle Busch got loose under Kvapil’s No.6 and sent them both spinning. Kvapil was able to keep his wheels spinning and not flat spot his tires which left him on the track to try and regain some track position.

The field restarted on lap 184 with Kvapil in the 12th position. He was able to pass one truck and earn an 11th place finish after leading the most laps out of anyone in the field.

“My truck was a little loose and I thought we could keep it on the outside and run pretty good up there,” said Kvapil. “That was kind of the plan. I was willing to give up the bottom because my truck was just too loose. I needed to just let it roll around the outside. I’m pretty sure I gave Kyle Busch enough room out there, but he just got up into me a little bit and that’s all it took.”

USAC Pavement Sprint Car Win at Altamont Raceway Park for Ryan Kaplan

K&N sponsored Ryan Kaplan raced his USAC pavement sprint car at Altamont Raceway Park in Tracey, California right into first place.

Kaplan entered the race with a nine-point lead in the Championship Standings and was fast right out of the gate. “We began practice around noon on Saturday,” said Kaplan. “With the car handling well we were able to fine-tune for qualifying. I ended up at 4th and that was good because it put me in the inversion for the main event.”

Kaplan started the heat race on the outside of the third row. He jumped into third but had to let out of the gas because the car directly in front of him began to go sideways. “When this happened it caused a car to get under me,” said Kaplan. “The driver on the outside did not give me any room and started to turn down in the middle of the corner. This forced me to jump his left rear tire because there was no where to go. My car went up into the air and bent my front end when I landed.”

Within 15 minutes Kaplan’s pit crew replaced his bent front end. The mishap did not affect his starting spot in the main event.

At the start of the main, Kaplan worked around a few cars and started running the line. He was running in fourth place and right on the bumpers of the lead pack. At lap 25, the third place car hit the second place car. “That moved me up to third place,” said Kaplan. “I was faster than the leaders but it was hard to pass. With five laps to go I went right to the top and was running even with the leader. I made a pass and stretched my lead all the way to the checkered flag.”

Kaplan only uses K&N Engineering products. “I want to thank K&N for sponsoring me,” he said. “I really notice a difference in performance with the K&N products. I get more power and I don’t have to worry about debris on the track.”

Kaplan’s next race will be at Silver Dollar Speedway, then Hanford Speedway to run the BCRA midget race.

Three Top World of Outlaws Racers use K&N Products at Canadian Race

Defending World of Outlaws Champion Donny Schatz was beginning to think about being stuck on WoO win number 13 quite a bit lately. Even though the ParkerStore sponsored driver with K&N Engineering Products swept sprint car racing’s “Month of Money” races, he was concerned that he had not won a WoO Feature since the Summer Nationals Final on July 21. He wanted to move away from unlucky 13 to a number 14 win.

On Sunday night, Schatz scored World of Outlaw victory number 14 at Edmonton, Alberta in Canada. “Schatz sailed past Joey Saldana on lap 21 and maintained the lead during the final 14 laps for the win.

“I was starting to get worried about us sitting on 13 wins,” said Schatz. His Knoxville Nationals win did not count in the World of Outlaws point system. “I’m here to win every race and had some trouble doing that here the past few weeks. After the Nationals, we felt like we had a good chance on Tuesday at Minot, but things didn’t go our way. My team worked hard in Canada and it feels great to win up here.”

Schatz said the foundation for his 82nd career WoO win was established at Friday’s feature event when he raced from 11th to third. He began the program on Sunday by establishing a new track record at the 3/8 mile dirt oval. It was the second time in three races that he had set a new record in qualifying.

“We tried some things and went to school on Friday night,” said The Fargo, North Dakota native. “We made some good notes after the rain about track conditions.”

Schatz followed early leaders Joey Saldana, Craig Dollansky and Steve Kinser for the first few circuits of the 35-lap race. A yellow flag on lap 15 put Schatz on the back bumper of Saldana and a red flag halted the action just after the halfway point. The ParkerStore team made minor adjustments and Schatz took the lead by sticking his car around the bottom while Saldana tried to make the cushion work.

Once in front, Schatz worked his way through lapped traffic to victory. Saldana and Dollansky also use K&N Engineering products. “The K&N Airbox works flawlessly for us at each race,” said Schatz. “We are able to attain maximum horsepower. K&N builds a superior product. The fans are great in Edmonton. We’re excited about coming back next year and hopefully defending our win.”

The ParkerStore Team will continue the Gold Rush Tour next weekend with a pair of races near Seattle at Skagit Speedway. Last season, Schatz won the opener and finished second in two races at the track.
