K&N Filters No. 0 Sprint Car is Strong in World of Outlaws Series Race

California’s Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway is an extremely fast racetrack and on the night of the Dave Helm Memorial Jonathan Allard took a late race spin.

The Chico, California resident was able to charge forward to earn a 14th place finish in the Williams Motorsports K&N Filters No. 0. The night began with 42 competitors and Allard came out 22nd in the qualifying order. His lap of 14.143 put the K&N Filters machine only two one-thousandths of a second behind the 16th fastest car.

This was good news for Allard because the World of Outlaws only takes the top 16 qualifying drivers for the heat race. The 2006 King of California was able to bring home third place and transfer to the feature.

The track was tough because of the rain and traffic in the back was thick. Allard picked his spots and was on the move early in the K&N Filters Williams Motorsports No. 0. He was able to close in for a top ten spot. As Allard battled with the Tony Stewart Motorsports machine, he spun to a stop in turn two on the 25th lap. Allard was pushed back to the rear for the final 10 lap shootout.

Allard took the high side and charged around several competitors over the last few laps to bring home a hard fought 14th place finish. “We had a great car and are happy to race neck and neck with this kind of competition,” said Allard. “I want to thank our sponsors like K&N for supporting us as we move on in the series.”

Allard is scheduled to run the K&N Filters No. 0 at Manzanita Speedway in Arizona on Friday and Perris Auto Speedway in California on Saturday.

The 2007 road race season has ended for Harrison Brothers Racing at Brands Hatch in the UK. Jonathon and Richie Harrison were ready to roll at the Metzeler Racetec National Superstock Cup near Swanley in Kent.

In the first qualifying session Jonathon Harrison powered his 2006 HBR R1 equipped with K&N Engineering products into the top 15. By lap 7 he was in the 49 second bracket and climbing the timesheets.

“With 15 minutes left in the session, we brought my younger sibling back to the pits,” said Richie Harrison. “Even though he was passing rider after rider the bike was beginning to slide. We fixed the bike and sent him back to the track. He was able to hold 14th place on the grid.”

In the second qualifying session Harrison Brothers Racing knew that everything was working as expected. Jonathon Harrison held 12th place and moved on to the main event.

“He took his place on the 3rd row in the 11th spot,” said Richie Harrision. “He had a great start but made a small error after five laps and went to 12th place. Going into the last lap my brother rounded the last turn and headed for the line. Jonathon had a 12th place finish and a total of four points.”

K&N Engineering has supplied Harrison Brothers with parts since 2005. “We know with K&N our bikes are working at their best,” said Richie Harrison. “We never have a problem with any K&N products or services and we are looking forward to working with K&N again in the 2008 season.”

The Harrison Brothers plan to compete in the British Superbike Championship for the 2008 season.

Long Course Run for GSXR 1000 at Bonneville Salt Flats

Some photos tell their own story, and with one look that photo itself can define speed. Paul Livingston of Falkner Livingston Racing was going just under 195 mph on the long course at Bonneville Salt Flats when a lens captured the motorcyclists doing what he loves at the World Speed Finals.

“Between 120 and 130 mph you can hear the engine,” said Livingston. “After 130 mph the only thing you hear is wind.” The white salt shines under the bikes at Bonneville and reflect 11,000 foot mountain peaks.

Livingston took his 2007 GSXR 1000 to the short course first. “I had to get a sticker that qualified me for the long course,” he said. “On the first run I went 180 mph. That did it.” The Bonneville Salt Flats are the perfect stage for high speed racers who have one goal, to set the fastest land speed record in their class.

“I qualified for the record twice,” said Livingston. “On the third run a strong head wind pushed me too hard. The bike was going as fast as it was going to go, but it wasn't enough.”

The Falkner Livingston Team uses K&N Engineering Products on its team motorcycles. “In the dry and salty conditions at the Flats, K&N Filters are a huge part of making our motorcycles run well,” said Livingston. “When you’re building a motorcycle to run over 200 mph, each and every part on the bike is critical, that is why we rely on K&N Oil and Air Filters.”

Volare Knocks Out Duster in Stock/Super Stock Combo at Pageland Dragway

Michael Beard continued on an unprecedented roll at Pageland Dragway in his J/CM 1980 Volare. The Duck Tape Team competed in two eliminators, a Stock/Super Stock Combo and the Mickey Thompson Ironman Club Shootout.

Beard knocked off Super Stock racer Bob Earnhardt in the semifinals of the Stock/Super Stock Combo and went on to win the title over Jamie Southards. Beard took the holeshot with a .014 reaction time and a 7.203 on a 7.19 dial-in.

In the Mickey Thomson Ironman event Beard advanced to the final round, but his opponent won by getting the holeshot in his Vega. “I wish I won that one, but our string has been great,” said Beard. “I won the last two points races at Pageland, doubled up at Jackson and was in the gambler’s race at the Bracket Finals when they called it off. After two finals in one night at Pageland I hope I have enough luck left to get the final round we need at Rockingham for the World Championship.”

Beard uses K&N Engineering Products. “We found a winning, quality combination with K&N,” he said. “We used K&N throughout the years. My cars run flawlessly.”

This weekend, Beard will compete in two more Stock/Super Stock Combos, including Roxboro Motorsports Dragway in North Carolina. Beard is the defending champion at Roxboro’s Stock/Super Stock Ironman Classic and remains undefeated there.

Off Road Elka Yadkin Valley Stomp in North Carolina Dominated by Warnert Racing

Warnert Racing’s Can Am Team took four podium finishes in the Grand National Cross County Series at Yadkinville, North Carolina.

It is one of the tightest tracks in the series with twists and turns that tear into machines and riders. Speeds are generally lower and finesse rules the day. Can-Am Warnert Racing’s riders were prepared for the two hour off-road event.

Clifton Beasley faced off with fellow Can Am rider Jerime Dudding as the pair battled each other in 4X4 Lites. The conditions were dry and warm and a track choked with dust shortened visibility. When the dust did settle, Duddding edged out Beasley by seconds to claim his second victory of the season. Beasley already had the points battle won in the 4X4 Lites overall and his second place finish marked his 10th race of the season finishing second or better.

“Our K&N Engineering air filters kept us running despite the dust and provided us with power,” said Levi Michel, Warnert Race Manager. “We get better throttle response all the way through a race.”

Can Am Warnert Racing’s Michale Swift owned the 4X4 Limited class all season long, and was the second team member to lock in a class championship. Swift jumped out to the early lead and continued to dominate the Limited class. He secured his 9th win of the 2007 series.

4X4 Open riders Richard Cecco and Scott Kilby carried the Warnert Racing momentum forward with the largest machines in one of the most competitive classes. The duo combined for a 2nd and 3rd place podium finish. The tight and twisting layout and slower speeds did not favor the big 4X4 machines. Both riders had great rides in conditions that tested them to the limits in their Can Am Outlander 800’s equipped with K&N products.

Cecco had the lead until fellow Can Am rider Bryan Buckhannon passed him for the win. “This provided Warnert Racing with a 4X4 sweep at Yadkinville,” said Michel. “The dirt was so extreme, but K&N kept us running enough to sweep. We like having a filter we can clean.”

The series heads to Powerline Park in Ohio for round 12 on October 13.
