Add Power to 1.4 and 1.6 Liter Toyota Corolla with K&N Typhoon Cold Air Intake System

The Toyota Corolla is one of the best selling cars in the world. It is manufactured in Japan, the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Pakistan, South Africa, Brazil, Turkey, India and Venezuela.

K&N Engineering, Inc. has released a new 69-Series Typhoon Air Intake System (69-8754TR) in powder coated red for the 2002 through 2007 Toyota Corolla 1.4 and 1.6 liter engines. Designers chose the color red because it is a very popular color for these models in Europe.

The Typhoon Air Intake Systems offer the best possible horsepower with a more stylish appearance. K&N Engineering's high flow technology is applied to a large conical open element K&N Air Filter (RU-4960). This provides more surface area for huge increases in airflow and power you can feel. The Mass Airflow sensor is integrated into the tube through the vent for a nicer look, said K&N Product Development Technician Patrick Jacobs.

The design of the Corolla played a major role in the making of this K&N Cold Air Intake System. The replacement K&N Air Filter is placed on top of the engine, in place of the original air box. The aluminum tube fits directly onto the throttle body. The K&N Filtercharger® Air Filter is installed onto the other end of the tube where it can provide the engine a virtually free flow of air for more power.

There is a thorough development procedure for all K&N 69-Series Typhoon Air Intakes which requires the use of multiple test vehicles. The Toyota Corolla is one of the best selling cars in Europe and finding donor vehicles was not a problem.

The 69-8754TR will fit the following vehicles:

Sprint car racer Jonathan Allard picked up two podium finishes in the Golden State Challenge Series season opening at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California.

In the GSC Series the top eight fastest cars who survive the heat races make it to the dash. Allard survived and started the dash from the outside of row two. He was able to get around pole sitter Jim Richardson early and chased leader Andy Forsberg. Allard closed up on Forsberg in the K&N Filters, Red Line Oil No. 0 but ran out of time. He managed to land an outside front row starting spot.

In the heat Forsberg got the jump but Allard stayed tight to the rear bumper of the defending Silver Dollar Speedway track champ. As the pair rounded turn four on lap two Allard took command of the race. He went on to claim his first win of the season.

Allard and Williams Motorsports hoped to repeat their win on the second night of racing. In the 40 lap main event Allard started at third. At the midway point Allard moved up, but during the last part of the race it became a battle for first place. Allard had trouble down the backstretch and ended the race in third place.

After two nights of action Allard is in a tie with Tim Kaeding for the Golden State Challenge Series point lead. Allard uses K&N Engineering Products. “K&N is the best for our cars, the oil and air filters are easy to use and maintain. We just wash, assemble and race. The K&N Carbon Fiber Airbox works great. K&N products are on all our vehicles and will help us get a second Golden State Challenge Title in 2007.”

The next race for Allard is at Hanford’s Kings Speedway in Hanford, California.

K&N has been the Official Air Filter and Oil Filter in Protruck since 2005. Stewart started his own series years ago and has built more than 50 vehicles. “My Protrucks are designed to handle the toughest off-road racing conditions,” said Stewart. “K&N Engineering makes the best products. Our guys only use K&N Oil and Air Filters.”

Stewart also does his own sanctioning. He ran nine out of 20 Protrucks at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb last summer. The Protruck Class was new in Colorado Springs and Charles McDowell’s win at 14:33.964 set the Class record.

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb has been an annual event since 1916. There are no guardrails, 200 foot drops and 156 hair raising turns. The course is part dirt and part pavement.

“For years we raced in Barstow on July 4th,” said Stewart. “In 2006, it was time to try one of the most recognized races in the world. The heritage at Pikes Peak is amazing. I wanted Protruck to be part of its history.”

Protruck uses the latest technology in space frame construction to provide a high performance race truck. The maximum engine size allowed in the small block V-8 class is a 360 CI, with a maximum compression ratio of 9.5:1. There is a choice of Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet, GMC and Toyota.

“We have the highest finish rate in Protrucks because we use proven products like K&N,” Stewart said. “Everyone knows K&N is the best choice for off-road filters. Their reputation has been top notch for decades and we are proud to have the K&N name associated with the Protruck Racing Series.”

"With the double British weekend this year in Belgium and Holland, it makes sense for us to gain as much knowledge as we can against the top European competitors," said Chris Cake. "We will use both the test and race day to learn more. The European Rallycross in France will also be a big test and it looks like fellow Open Championship competitor Mad Mark will be at the event with his Citroen Xsara."

There are four divisions within the Rallycross Open Series, Division 1, Super National, Open Series 2000 and the Evo Challenge. K&N Engineering is an associate sponsor of the Rallycross Open Championship Races. The majority of the vehicles in this circuit are equipped with K&N Filters.

“It’s a huge honor for me to be a part of the Worsham Team,” said Arend. “To also have the chance to drive the K&N Filters car, well that’s just above and beyond what you could hope for. Our sport lives and breathes on the support of the fans and the sponsors, so having the opportunity to give K&N a chance to shine on one of the biggest stages of the year is awesome, and doing it in Gainesville is almost perfect.”

New career highlights may be on the horizon for the 12-year-veteran. He demolished his all-time best numbers in terms of estimated time and speed at Pomona, and goes into Gainesville holding onto 7th place on the POWERade points sheet. Arend has already earned round wins against Jack Beckman and Ron Capps, with the Capps win (at Pomona).

“There’s no getting around the fact that we had a lot of eyes on us at Pomona and Phoenix,” said Arend. “The pressure was about as intense as I’ve ever felt. To me, and all the guys on the team it’s about showing what we’re fully capable of delivering all year. Going into the semi-final in Pomona was a great accomplishment, but you haven’t seen the best of this team yet.”

Putting the K&N car in the winner’s circle is in the realm of possibility, according to Team Manger Bob Wilber. “Every lap is going to be difficult, all season long,” he said. “There is every reason to believe Jeff will give K&N and our complete family of sponsors a big weekend. On one of his favorite tracks, in the best car he has ever driven, Jeff is already visualizing the moment he pops out of his car, fists raised in celebration after the final round on Sunday. Then, on national television, he’d have the chance to mention his two favorite letters, K&N.”
