Infiniti Design 2008 G37 Sedan Concept at SEMA in Las Vegas, Nevada

Manny de Encio of Automotive Design Concepts in Huntington Beach, California has built custom cars for more than twenty-five years. When he was younger he worked at his family’s Porsche and Mercedes Benz shop.

“I like the constant change and the options of so many different designs,” said De Encio. “There are so many ways to express yourself when you customize a vehicle. One of his designs was the star of the Infiniti booth at SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Nevada.

“We call it the G37 Sedan Concept,” said De Encio. “Our design was European, inside and out. Our G37 Sedan is equally ready for the Autobahn as it is for a night on the Las Vegas Strip.” Automotive Design Concepts extended the fenders for more than 2.5 inches for a wide body approach. “The paint job, however, really stood out,” said De Encio. “It’s from PPG Industries Vibrance Collection Radiance line. We put eleven coats of Sunset Red Candy paint on top of a gold base.”

K&N supplied De Encio with its 69-7082TS air intake system. “K&N, hands down, makes the best air intake kit on the market today,” he said. “K&N sees the fit and enhances the way vehicles perform. We noticed the increase in horsepower immediately. We also equipped our car with a K&N oil filter.”

Eye candy is a staple of Las Vegas, it comes in all forms depending on individual desires, but at SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) it is definitely in a world of its own. More than 120,000 people from around the globe went to Nevada to see the best of the automotive world.

K&N had several pieces of eye candy in its booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center. One of them was a modified 2009 Dodge Challenger. People took pictures with it, and asked questions about it, but almost everyone noticed something interesting on the dash. Just out of reach, to be seen but not touched was a limited edition K&N 1970 Plymouth Barracuda collector car from Hot Wheels, a mirror image of the Challenger.

The tease turned into a dream come true for die cast collectors. A group of attendees stood in line over the course of two days to get an original K&N collectable from Hot Wheels and K&N. Hands down, said collectors, of all the classic muscle cars, some of the most valuable are the Dodge Challengers and Plymouth Barracudas from the 1970s.

Hot Wheels designer Jerry Thienprasiddhi used K&N graphics on the side and top of the Barracuda. He also kept the clean lines from the original Plymouth Barracuda to create the K&N 1970 Plymouth Barracuda collector car. K&N also hosted Thienprasiddhi for an autograph session.

“I was surprised at the long line,” said Thienprasiddhi. “It’s definitely a testament to the popularity of Hot Wheels. Everyone who came through had collections from hundreds of cars to thousands upon thousands.” Thienprasiddhi can relate because his own collection stands in the thousands.

He was often asked about his favorite designs from the enthusiasts who stood in line. “Of course, the K&N Challenger was number one, but a close second would be any car with flames,” said Thienprasiddhi. “Flames on hot rods, muscle cars, motorcycles and planes are great too.”

From the autograph booth to the real deal, the crowd migrated to the K&N 2009 Dodge Challenger. Under the hood was a K&N air intake system 57-1542, to give this muscle car additional horsepower.

Other modifications included:

Magnaflow Cat Back Exhaust
Eiback Springs
360 Forged Wheels
Nitto Tires
Modern Image Decals

“Originally, the design was meant for a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, so I did not know what to expect at the K&N booth,” said Thienprasiddhi. “It turned out great though. K&N did a great job. The Challenger was a great choice and definitely one of the signature cars of this year’s SEMA show. Most of the ones I saw there had the usual stripes going down the side or top. The K&N version definitely stood out.”

Both K&N air filters deliver superior performance in extreme conditions. As a matter of fact, the “XD” stands for “Extreme Duty”. Baja race trucks in particular can benefit greatly with these filters, which were developed to provide performance and protection for an 800 horsepower race engine enduring the rigorous demands of the Baja 1000 race.

The E-3976XD and E-3977XD are made with six layers of specially woven cotton media providing excellent filtration efficiency. In addition these filters have a black powdered coated outer wire mesh for extra strength and protection during off-road racing.

The E-3976XD and E-3977XD also utilize a 1-1/4" pleat depth increasing the surface area for optimum dirt capacity.  Both air filters are intended for custom assemblies and are relied on by various Trophy Truck teams competing in the world's most demanding proving grounds. One of those racers who uses an extreme duty K&N air filter is K&N's own Scott Kincaid.

The E-3976XD and E-3977XD have the ability to handle higher amounts of dust and silt found in extreme off road conditions. These K&N air filters are warranted against defective materials or workmanship for one year from date of purchase with no mileage limitation.

The outside diameter and height of the E-3976XD is 16 inches by 5 inches. The outside diameter and height of the E-3977XD is 16 inches by 4 inches.
