“Jason was at his absolute best,” said Roy Stone, Crump’s Media Relations Manager. “He went through the field with a perfect score. Jason won seven races from seven starts. He also amassed a maximum score of 24 points along with double the prize money as a World Speedway Grand Prix SuperPrix bonus.”

Crump now has a 31 point lead in the series. “I am on top of the world right now,” said the two-time World Speedway Grand Prix Champion. “There are still six more Grand Prix’s to go so I’m not predicting anything right now. My feet are firmly planted on the ground and I still have a very tough job ahead of me in the Series.”

The World Speedway Grand Prix is currently on a five week break. The top riders will be representing their various countries of record in the World Team Cup from July 11-18.

“It’s important now to keep focused, remain injury free and let the results speak for themselves,” said Crump. “Hopefully I can win a third World Speedway Championship. I also want to thank my sponsors, this win was for them.”

Crump uses K&N products. “K&N air filters are the best in the world,” he said. “I have used K&N exclusively for years and never had a problem. I love the products. K&N is the best for dirt track racing.”

Crump has 98 points, Russia’s Emil Sayfutdinov is second with 67 points and Greg Hancock, USA, rounds out the top three overall with 59 points in the World Speedway Grand Prix Series. Round Six will resume at Daugavpils in Latvia on August 1.

There is a new Metal Mulisha on the racing scene. It is a two-truck team with Brian Deegan and Todd Cuffaro. Deegan is still the bad boy king of the track and Cuffaro is the smooth talking general. Both have a common goal, both come from motorcycle backgrounds and both are in a championship chase in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, (LOORRS).

Deegan rocked his Metal Mulisha followers with a victory at Lake Elsinore, California. The X Games medalist bested Crandon Champion, Rodrigo Ampudia and CORR Champion Robert Naughton in his Rockstar/Metal Mulisha/BF Goodrich Tires sponsored flat black unlimited Ford truck.

Dirt, rock balls the size of fists and tiny boulders flew everywhere as the self proclaimed king of the Metal Mulisha battled Naughton, Ampudia and Marty Hart before taking the lead. Deegan never looked back and claimed the first professional truck racing victory for Metal Mulisha.

Deegan’s teammate Todd Cuffaro also took the podium with a 2nd place finish among a field of trucks at the KALGAARD Lake Elsinore Motorsports Complex.

Cuffaro’s No.46 Nissan Rockstar Metal Mulisha truck was bumped and slammed in mosh pit style during the first lap and a half of competition. Cuffaro pushed back and worked his way toward the top spot. The leader had mechanical problems, and as Cuffaro pushed for the lead on the final lap, a yellow caution was waved. Officials ended the race on the final lap under the yellow caution and Cuffaro was not able to catch the lead racer. As a result, he finished in second place.

Cuffaro and Deegan both fought triple digit temperatures that reached 109 degrees on the short course dirt track. The heat was no big deal for these two tough guys. They have faced more serious problems in the past. Both have experienced a brush with death on two wheels in the past.

Cuffaro moved to off-road cars after breaking his back in a motorcycle crash during the Best in the Desert Tonopah 300 in 2002. Deegan crashed while performing a back flip, lost four pints of blood and a kidney. The duo both agreed that it was nice to have a roll cage in competition.

“I feel a lot safer in trucks,” said Deegan. “It’s a natural progression from dirt bikes to four wheels and a roll cage.”

“Brian and I are a good balance for each other,” said Cuffaro. “Brian brings a lot to the table with his name recognition and racing resume. I bring experience in off-road racing, along with prepping and maintaining trucks.”

K&N is the filter of choice for Metal Mulisha. “I’m pumped on K&N,” said Deegan. “K&N makes the best air filter. We never have problems on the track with K&N.”

Cuffaro and Deegan return to the LOORRS Series at the Lake Elsinore Motorsports Complex July 25-29.

Long Hauler on the 2009 Hot Rod Power Tour Has Big Rush on NASCAR track

The 2009 Hot Rod Power Tour began with light occasional drizzle in Madison, Wisconsin at the Alliant Energy Center. The seven-day, seven-city tour is considered one of the best automotive tours in the world by many enthusiasts. It is also a passion for Bob Proulx.

The St. Louis Missouri engineer has participated in the Hot Rod Power Tour since 2001. He enjoys the various hot rods and meets other car people. “One of the great things for me on this trip was to secure two tickets at the Great Lakes Drag Strip in the Painless Performance Air Ride Technologies Autocross Challenge,” said Proulx. “I made two passes in my 1994 Firebird on the drag strip and it was really great.”

The next leg of the trip was in South Bend, Indiana where Proulx and the others on the tour watched collectable and vintage automobiles rumble through the streets.

On the way to Mt. Clemens, Michigan Proulx encountered car problems. “My alternator gauge was acting funny and there was a burning smell along with an ugly noise,” said Proulx. “I opened the hood and my alternator was burning up. I caught it in time. There was no damage to my car and I was able to find another alternator with the help of a flat bed driver.”

Proulx said the high point of tour was driving his 1994 Pontiac Firebird for five laps around Bristol Motor Speedway’s NASCAR short track. “It was amazing to be driving on the same banked corners as Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jimmie Johnson and Mark Martin. We followed a pace car in groups of ten but were not allowed to pass. I got up to 80 mph and ran the bottom and top of the track. It was the biggest adrenalin rush that I had in a long time.”

Proulx completed the trip with drivers from all over the world. “I averaged 21 miles per gallon for the entire Hot Rod Power Tour,” said Proulx. “One of the things I can attribute this to is my K&N air filter. With K&N my car breathes better and I get additional performance.”

Proulx plans to attend the 2010 Hot Rod Power Tour.

At Eldora, McCarl started things out with the sixth quick time of the night. After the heat race, the Altoona, Iowa driver noticed a problem with the motor and went back to the pits for an engine change. “We were lucky enough to have more than one motor on hand,” he said. “We went out again and the car was perfect.”

McCarl had a plan to get to the front of the pack on the restart. “I wanted to get by Dale Blaney, because he is so good on the Eldora Speedway,” he said. “I was able to do that on the start and we were in the top five around lap six. The track was perfect and so was the car. I ran the bottom, went up to the middle and ended up on top. I was having a blast.”

On lap 23, McCarl made his winning move. “During the yellow, I knew it would be tough to pass,” he said. “In the end I was able to pass everyone and won by a straightaway. It was always a dream to win at Knoxville, Williams Grove and Eldora and this was very special to me.”

McCarl uses K&N products. “In order to compete at the level that Big Game Motorsports does in the world of winged sprint car racing we require the utmost performance from our engine program,” said Rich Toews, Big Game Motorsports Team Operations Manager. “To insure that our engines make the most horsepower possible, and to protect our engine investments, we count on K&N air filters. They deliver the performance we need, and on top of it all, they are easily maintained and last us an entire season competing at dirt tracks across the United States."

McCarl’s next race with the World of Outlaws is the US36 Raceway near Osborn, Missouri.
