The next generation Corvette C6.R finished second and fourth in the hard fought
GT2 category in the sixth round of the American Le Mans Series.
The twin corvettes battled it out in Lexington, Ohio where drivers Johnny O’Connell and Jan Magnussen finished
second in the No. 3 Compuware Corvette C6.R. They were 21 seconds behind the class-winning Porsche 911 RSR of Patrick Long and Joerg Bergmeister.
“It was a really good run and we didn’t have any issues,” said Magnussen. It’s very difficult in traffic, even more difficult than with the GT1 cars. This was not the race to risk the cars, so I lost a little time being too cautious. The GT2 corvette C6.R is a fantastic race car and very easy to drive fast. We still have a few minor things to sort out, but I think we’re already there.”
During the race the No. 19 LMP2 prototype went off the track and a full-course caution began. The race leader was between the two Corvettes, which were only four seconds apart on the track. As a result of the caution, the leading No.45 Porsche and the second place No. 3 Corvette gained nearly a full lap on the rest of the GT2 entries.
“There was a small gap between the Corvettes, and I could hear the excitement in Crew Chief Dan Bink’s voice on the radio,” said O’Connell. “He was saying don’t let him by. We did not want to lose over a safety car wave-by.”
When racing resumed, a pack of GT2 cars were fighting for third place, separated by only 3.5 seconds. Beretta’s No. 4 Corvette C6.R and the No. 92 BMW driven by Dirk Mueller eventually broke free and Mueller took the third place on the podium. Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta finished fourth in the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R.
“Those first few laps were frantic,” said Gavin. “The first start was waved off, we were forming up again and it all got rather confusing. A BMW got by me and then the Ford GT so I had to hustle my way past them. We had a bit of contact. I got a few shoves, and I gave them back. GT2 is a great class to race.”
“To come out here with only a few days of testing on two brand new race cars and run with the leaders demonstrates our pit stop prowess and race strategy,” said Corvette Racing Program Manager Doug Fehan. “To finish second is a testament to how hard this team works.”
The Corvette C6.Rs also swept the top two spots in the Michelin Green X challenge with the best overall scores based on energy used, greenhouse gases emitted and petroleum fuels displaced.

Corvette Racing’s next event is the Tim Warner Cable Road Race Showcase featuring the American Le Mans Series at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on August 14-15. SPEED-TV will televise the race live at 3p.m. EST.
Jason Crump landed the fourth place spot in the FIM Latvijas Mobilais Latvian Grand Prix. It was Crump’s worst Grand Prix result in the 2009 season, but the Australian Double World Speedway Grand Prix Champion left Latvia happy with his final result and relieved that the race was over.

Californian Greg Hancock took first place, Denmark’s Kenneth Bjerre took second and Poland’s Tomasz Gollob took third place. Crump remains overall points champion with 108 points to Hancock’s 79 points.

Crump collected only one point in his first two rides. He switched bikes and grabbed two heat wins during his next two outings. As a result, he had enough points for the semi-finals.
The night was unpredictable for most of the riders. The first ten races had ten different winners. To top it off, Crump had one of the most difficult gates at the start of the final. He fought hard
despite his position, and made it through the race for a top five finish.
The seventh round of the 2009 Speedway Grand Prix World Championship takes place next Saturday at Malilla in Sweden. Crump has made the final there each year for the past five years. “Jason need to produce yet another outstanding performance as the championship chase is still wide open,” said Roy Stone, Media Relations Manager. “Jason’s priority is to capture vital points to maintain his lead.”
With the series now past its half-way mark, the two-time World Speedway Champion has a third World Championship in his sights and knows what is required to achieve that goal.
“I struggled in Latvia, but came away satisfied that I at least made the final,” said Crump. “Now I have to just keep scoring consistently and stay focused. This year I am more relaxed due to not riding four or five nights a week. This has helped me greatly. I have time to mentally prepare myself for each Grand Prix and so far it has been paying off.”
Crump has 21 Grand Prix wins to his name. He said he can count on K&N at every race. “In my sport filtration is the most important thing for reliability,” he said. “Reliability keeps me tops in points and gives me World Championships. That is why I rely on K&N filters. I race on dirt and keeping the dirt out of the engine is critical and at the same time K&N allows my engines to breathe for maximum performance.”
Crump has a good and consistent track record in Malilla. “I have a lot of hard work ahead of me,” said the Australian. “I will be fighting to the end to become a World Champion again.”
Sprint car racer Wendy Mathis began her successful career in motorsports at the early age of 12 years old. Since then she has collected a plethora of accomplishments including becoming the first female in the state of Florida to win the State Quarter Midget Championship, the first female to win a feature event with the Tampa Bay Area Racing Association (TBARA) Sprint Car Club, and the first female to win a main event with a major sanctioning body in the state of Florida.

"It allows the most air to flow into the motor creating the most horsepower we can possibly get. We've cut the filters open to see this stuff getting caught and I feel relieved to know that it doesn't go back into the motor to cause any issues in the motor itself."
As most children in racing families do, Wendy grew up with a passion for motorsports. Her father, Jerry, was a successful modified racer in the competitive upstate New York asphalt modified series. When Wendy was twelve, her parents bought her a Quarter Midget and they started racing all over the state of Florida. Wendy's intense passion for competing in motorsports was very unique among other girls her age.
After switching her focus to pavement sprint cars in 2001, Wendy has since competed with the TBARA Sprint Car Club, collecting two feature wins. She is currently also competing full-time in the O'Reilly USCS Asphalt Thunder Series. Wendy has been in talks with Firestone Indy Lights Series teams to secure necessary sponsorship to run ovals, including the Freedom 100 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. "My heart really pulls me towards the Indy Light Series just because I have been in open wheel my entire life. But if doors open up on the NASCAR and stock car racing side, I will definitely pursue that as well."
In her many years of racing, Wendy has become a precision driver with amazing talent and ability. She is not only a driver, but she is also very knowledgeable about the machine she controls which makes her a mechanics dream when communicating vehicle dynamics and setting up the car for maximum performance. Wendy is also a great role model and spokesperson as she has done work with the "Race Against Drugs" program, the Sprint Car & Midget Magazine "Stay in School" program, and the "Drive for the Dream" program.
Wendy's next race is August 15 at Watermelon Capital as part of the USCS Asphalt Thunder Tour. Then she rolls into DeSoto Super Speedway August 29 as part of the Tampa Bay Asphalt Racing Association.
The Red Bull Indianapolis GP returns to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway August 28-30. It will be the second running for the MotoGP Series at Indy. K&N will have a booth at the MotoGP and is a sponsor of the Indy Mile.

K&N sponsored racer Chris Carr will sign autographs Friday August 28 from 4-7 pm at Southside Harley Davidson, 4930 Southport Crossing Place, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The 7 time AMA Grand National Flat Track Champion and 2008 Indy Mile Winner along with his chief mechanic Kenny Tolbert will bring race bikes. There will also be a vintage bike show including a Buell road race bike.
K&N and D&D Performance will also be giving away products at the Southside Harley Davidson event. There will be live music by the Porch Mechanics and free food.
The day after the party, the gates open at 2:00 p.m. at the Indiana State Fairgrounds for the Lucas Oil Indy Mile AMA Pro Flat Track Grand Nationals. Last year, only 0.03 separated winner Chris Carr from Kenny Coolbeth in the championship race. This year the top flat track riders in the world will race handlebar-to-handlebar around the track.
Senior year is about to start in Hesperia, California for K&N Driver Kyle McGrady, but there is still a lot of racing left for the young driver in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series. McGrady is ready to
continue to balance his 3.8 average at school with his racing career.

He is currently 8th overall in the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale Auto Club Late Models Division. At 16, McGrady is also the youngest driver in the division. He received his NASCAR license before his state driver’s license.“It’s interesting because a lot of drivers have a lot of years on me,” said McGrady. “It’s also very competitive. There is still time for me to move up a few more points this season.”

2009 was his first season in his family owned K&N Products Late Model Stock car. “We go about 92 mph and about 110 mph at the end of the straightaway,” said McGrady. “I’m getting comfortable with the car. The set-up is still a little finicky but we’re working it out.”
McGrady is also up for rookie of the year in the NASCAR Series.
He is also very familiar with several types of racing. He began racing Jr. Speedway Sprints on dirt when he was only 8-years-old. At 10, he graduated to Mini-Stock Cars and at 13 moved up to the Pro-4 Division. McGrady won Rookie of the Year in 2006 in the Pro-4 Division where the next youngest driver was in his late 20s. He also finished 6th overall in the points standings
that year.

McGrady will next race at Irwindale August 8 and 22.
