“We had to qualify for a spot in the top 32,” said the 27-year-old from Huntington Beach, California. “I tried not to let the points lead get to me mentally. I did not want to mess myself up. I focused on qualifying and made sure our speed was high enough. We qualified 7th and that was a huge weight off my shoulders.”

Drivers started in the half-mile of the Turn 2 corner and raced down the back straight into Turns 3 and Turns 4. They transitioned into the tracks third mile oval and veered into a 90 degree turn before ending at the starting point. This all took place in front of a crowd of nearly 12,000 fans.

Forsberg only needed to win one round of the tandem competition to take the win in the NOS Energy/ Maxxis Tire Nissan 350Z. He defeated Van Den Brink and clinched the series title. When it was over, his crew pulled him out of the car and tossed him into the air. “It was great,” he said. “We’d gotten so close in the past few years and we pushed hard for it every year. It feels great.”

Forsberg is one of the original drivers in the six-year-old Formula D series. He also claimed the most wins in the 2009 season from the season opener in April at the Long Beach Grand Prix to Road Atlanta.

“We’ve been chasing the championship for the past 6 years since Formula DRIFT first started and everyone was out to do the same thing,” he said. “We just ran as hard as everyone else and did the best we could. I’m totally psyched for what my team was able to accomplish to win the championship.”

Formula Drift was established on the streets of Japan and evolved into a worldwide competitive sport that challenges each driver’s ability and vehicle control. “It’s not about racing,” said Forsberg. “It’s an extreme sport where you are judged on how well you do on the track and on your driving ability.”

Forsberg plans to compete in Formula Drift in 2010. His Nissan 350Z will have an upgraded drive and engine package. “One thing that will remain the same is our K&N air filters,” he said. “K&N is critical to our engine package because it’s the only barrier between the dirt, rocks, burned rubber and debris from the track. K&N keeps us running clean and is reliable enough to push us to the championship.”

Forsberg’s next event will be at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) Show in Las Vegas, Nevada during the first week of November. He will be signing autographs and talking to fans.

Barnes Systems, Inc - Oil Pump Manufacturer with a Winning Tradition

The Barnes family has been in the oil pump business for over 40 years, initially opening their doors in 1966. While working at Howard Racing Cams, dealing with many drag and oval racing teams, founder Al Barnes first came to realize the need for an improved, more efficient, oiling system.

Barnes began product development by first scrutinizing other widely accepted oil pumps, pinpointing and logging their weaknesses versus strengths. Based on his research, Barnes then started developing his own oil pump, featuring a host of innovative improvements. With the help and support of his wife Barbara and son John, working out of their Redondo Beach, California garage, he designed his first unique dry sump oil pump for the 392 Chrysler, followed closely by a pump for the small block Chevy. These pumps quickly earned Barnes a reputation for ingenuity and attention to detail - it's a reputation that continues to grow and be more imbedded in the racing community each year.

"Back in the early '80's, we were the first oil pump manufacturer to incorporate machined O-ring grooves in all of our oil pump sections, that eliminated the need for silicone to seal the individual sections, like most other pumps," says Barnes. "We were also the first to incorporate T-slots into the surface plates that relives trapped oil between the gears, reducing pump pulsation and excess wear. We are the first to use a steel drive gear along with a bronze idler gear, thereby reducing the wear between similar materials (i.e. gear-to-gear and idler gear to idler shaft).

One of the key factors in Barnes Systems ability to produce top-quality components is their machining equipment. "We have enough CNC equipment to produce all of our oil pump parts in-house," adds Barnes. "Also, our inspection equipment is top-of-the-line."

Asked why their oil systems continue to experience such a high-level of success in racing, John Barnes had this to say, "Pride in the products that we build. Everyone at Barnes Systems is dedicated to holding all our components to the extremely high standards that my father Al set long ago. Our customers know they will always get the best quality equipment and materials, because we build every pump as if it were going onto one of our own engines. We also continue to listen to the needs of our customers, and we constantly keep on top of engine advances.

During their 40 plus years of being in business they have been associated with many of the most influential people in all of racing, in the process notching up a very impressive list of titles. In one season alone, customers using their products won the Winston Cup Championship, the NHRA Pro-stock title, USAC Sprint car and Midget titles, the World of Outlaws title and the Chili Bowl National Race. Engine builders that they've worked with include Penske Engines, Gaerte Engines, Reher-Morrison, Don Ott, Gary Stanton, Illmor Engineering, Esslinger Engineering, Mercury Racing, plus many others.

"When our customers wanted to know which brand of oil filter we recommended, we decided to test some racing filters to see if there was a difference," says Barnes. "We were very impressed with the K&N oil filter element and it's outstanding record for reliability and performance. We knew it would also be a perfect fit for our new line of oil pumps with integrated oil filter. So now, if there is any application that requires a high-performance, high-flow oil filter - we only look in one place."

Presently they are working on a whole new line of oil pumps, specifically geared towards those looking for the smallest, lightest and most efficient oil pumps available. Together with this new pump design; they incorporate some of their proven pump configurations, including those with integrated oil filter mounts. "We are all very excited to begin a new chapter between Barnes Systems Inc, and K&N Filters," concludes Barnes.

“This is, without a doubt the best dragster I’ve owned to date,” said Bogacki. “The new car is gorgeous, immaculate, light and fast. Mark Horton, Travis Colangelo and all the guys at American Race Cars just seem to turn out a better product with every car they build. The new car has the K&N hood scoop and K&N air filter. I trust K&N as the industry leader in filters and related equipment. Having dependable products from K&N helps to put my mind at ease and focus on driving. I know I've got the best equipment available.”

Bogacki said the initial success of his dragster has been fantastic. He raced the new car for the first time at his local Huntsville Dragway a few weeks ago. There, he drove to victory. One week later, he made his Super Comp debut a memorable one, advancing to the final round of the NHRA LODRS event in Belle Rose, Louisiana.

Bogacki proceeded to the NHRA Fall National in Dallas, Texas. He fell in round two in Dallas but made it to victory lane in Memphis, Tennessee.

At the Mid-South Nationals, Bogacki claimed his second NHRA Wally of the 2009 season. He opened eliminations with victories over Rip Dennis and Troy Coughlin, Jr., before squaring off with Dallas Fall Nationals winner Lloyd Parfait in a pivotal third round match-up.

“Lloyd made a great run, he was .017 and dropped to 8.90,” said Bogacki. “I would take his pass in that situation any day of the week. I was just fortunate to make my best run of the weekend and got by Lloyd.”

Bogacki bested Parfait and crossed the finish line first by just .008 with both drivers hard on the brakes. That set up a quarterfinal match with former national event winner and defending NHRA Super Pro national champions Bart Nelson. Bogacki won and took a spot in the final round where he faced off with Billy Torrence. Bogacki again won and took the victory.

“I can’t begin to describe how great it feels to win this event,” he said. “I’ve done well bracket racing, but I had a pretty rough summer at the NHRA events I’ve been to. I also can’t say enough about this race car. I feel invincible right now.”

Other featured products on Bogacki’s new machine include:

Huntsville Engine and Performance built 582 cubic inch engine
Brodix PB1200 cylinder heads
Milodon Engine Components
J&J Engine Diapers
Hedman Hedders collector headers
Auto Meter new “Stack” dash and data logger setup
Dixie Racing Products
K&N hoodscoop
K&N air filter
Mickey Thompson tires and wheels
BTE transmissions

“I have a lot of confidence in this combination,” said Bogacki. “It makes my job a lot easier.”

First 4X4 awarded 2009 Best of Show by DUB in San Jose, California is a modified 2004 Dodge Ram 4X4 Diesel Dualie
DUB Magazine hosted the D-DAY L.A. automotive festival in San Bernardino, California. Hip hop artists were on the stage and car enthusiasts walked among some of the most tricked out cars, motorcycles and trucks at the National Orange Show Events Center.

K&N products were under the hood of Scions, Dodge Magnums, Chryslers, GMC Sierras and many other vehicles. K&N products were also in plain view on some of the award winning modified Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Then, there was the award winning 2004 Dodge Ram diesel 4X4 dualie owned by Tony "Scooby" Reynaga of Bakersfield, California. Reynaga originally bought the 5.9 liter truck with a Cummins motor as a stock vehicle. He decided to modify it and now his Dodge will be on display as a 2009 SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) feature vehicle.

"This was the first 4X4 to win 2009 Best of Show by DUB in San Jose, California," said Reynaga. "I've made a lot of changes, but now I'm almost satisfied with the way it looks."

The Dodge Ram has suicide doors that open backwards at 90 degrees, relocated door handles and no rear bumper. "We put a roll pan in place of the bumper," said Reynaga. "We also shaved off all of the bed pockets."

Reynaga replaced the front bumper and hood of his 2004 Dodge Cummins with the front end from a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 SRT-10. There is also a very large T-Rex mesh grill. "I iced out Noktastrophe on the top of the grill," said Reynaga. "Trends Custom Painting did the whole belly of the truck and also put graphics on the frame. The lift is also chrome plated."

Reynaga is also the President of the Bakersfield Chapter of the Nokturnal Car Club and would not rest until the inside was tricked out. "We got rid of the front and back seats and installed two bucket seats that spin all the way around," he said. "The interior was done in tweed and marine materials by Alfredo. As for the stereo, we went a little crazy."

There are 20-8 inch MA woofers inside the vehicle. "In the center of all the subs there are 32 inch LCD screens and we have an Xbox 360. I couldn't stop there. In the back of the truck bed we have 10 more MA woofers and 8 floating amps." Reynaga does mean floating. There is a working waterfall complete with more than 100 gallons of water cycling through a fountain.

The wheels are 24 inch American Force Freedom wheels. "We wrap the wheels with 37 inch open country rubber from Toyo. People tell me it looks nice but want to know if I can drive it. It shows and it goes."

Reynaga installed a K&N air intake system for more power. "The first thing I did was put a K&N air intake kit on my truck," he said. "K&N opened it up immediately. I got more power and acceleration. I also painted the intake tube to match my truck. I use K&N on my vehicles."

The truck was a show stopper at the DUB show. Crowds gathered to see all the details. "I want to thank all my sponsors," said Reynaga. "But the biggest thank you is to my wife who let me spend long nights working on my truck."

Modifications include:

K&N air intake kit
T-Rex Grilles
Performance Off Road
Rhino Manufacturing
American Force Big Dually Wheels
MagnaFlow Exhaust
Car Tunes, Bakersfield, California
High Performance Chrome
Undercover Innovations
Rize suspension lift kits
Kinetik high audio power cells

"I never say I'm done when it comes to modifying a vehicle," said Reynaga. "I may wake up tomorrow and start all over again. This is more than a hobby, it's my job."

World Speedway Grand Prix Battle is Over and Australian Rider has Won Third Crown

Jason Crump is the 2009 World Speedway Grand Prix Champion. It is the Australian’s third World Championship in six years. He is also only one of eight riders to win three or more World Speedway Championships in the history of the sport. He won the championships in 2004 and 2006.

The 34-year-old rider needed only eight points to secure the title when he went into the final race at Bydogoszcz in Poland. That lead was trimmed down to six when challenger Tomaz Gollob finished third in heat 12.

Crump was still nursing a painful arm injury that required a skin graft last month. He gained five points from his first three rides and only needed a point in heat 13 to win.

He closed the door on his challengers on heat 13 with a jet-propelled start from the outside gate to secure the title. “There were some nervous moments early on,” said Roy Stone, Crump’s Media Relations Manager. “But Jason stayed focused and on course and now belongs in the pantheon of world speedway greats.”

Crump won three out of eleven grand prix’s in 2009 and is also one of the most successful speedway riders in Australian history. He surpassed the two World Championships won by the late Jack Young in 1951 and 1952. “Five weeks ago I thought my season was over after my crash in Belle Vue,” Crump said. “But a fantastic team of people helped me get back on track and I have to thank them all.”

The first half of the season went like clockwork for Crump. “I messed up a little in the second half when I became a speedway rider rather than a speedway racer,” he said. “The injury never helped but things went well in the end and it was pretty special to win heat 13 when I only needed one point. It’s an awesome feeling to be the World Champion again.”

Crump finished the championship series with 159 points some 15 points clear of Polish veteran Tomasz Gollob. Gollob finished with 144 points and third placed teen rider Emil Sayfutdinov finished with 139 points.

Triple World Grand Prix Champion Crump has the tools of the trade to chase the record of six world titles starting in 2010. “As usual, I will be using K&N filters on all my bikes,” said Crump. “I have more than a dozen bikes in my stable for British, Polish and Swedish league racing and the World Championship Grand Prix. K&N has been a long time supporter and having the right filter is paramount in dirt track racing. K&N filters provide constant airflow for maximum engine performance. K&N delivers every time.”
