NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Honors State Rookie of the Year Natalie Sather

Talent and determination is a beautiful thing. Look no further then Fargo, North Dakota, resident Nataline Sather for poster-girl verification of that claim. Sather raced her first season on asphalt at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington and she had eight top fives, and reached the top ten in all 17 races. She also got a fourth place and one victory. Sather finished '09 as Washington State Rookie of the Year (eligible award drivers must have been first-time NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Feature Division license holders), and as a successfully fulfilled first year participant in the Drive for Diversity program.

We asked Sather how her first year racing on asphalt looked from her perspective?

"When I found out that I was going to be racing on asphalt, I knew going into the season, it was going to be challenging. I grew up racing on dirt tracks all around the US, and I had really only raced on asphalt once before, when I was 17, and that was in a go-kart," explains Sather.

"What motivated me the most were guys like Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne and Tony Stewart. They all started off racing on the dirt and are now very successful on asphalt. Watching NASCAR racing, I've heard the announcers say so many times, 'that was a great save and clearly that's from their dirt racing background.'"

"The entire season was a learning experience. I had to adjust to the differences between the dirt and asphalt and also continue to cultivate racing relationships. I had such an incredible team that helped me to make the transition. As the season progressed, our communication got better, and so did our results. We had our goals at the beginning of the season and we met every one. I learned so very much, I had fun, and not only gained a race team out in Washington, but a family and a lot of friends. Through my eyes it was an AMAZING season."

Last year was also Sather's first year driving for NASCAR's Drive for Diversity Program and she considered it a great opportunity to have been selected. "The real blessing though, was the incredible team I was chosen by - Total Velocity Motorsports. Not only did I get to race for a great group of people, but again, they made me part of their family," adds Sather.

Growing up Sather's father sponsored a sprint car at their local Red River Valley Speedway in Fargo. She recalls watching drivers like Donny Schatz. She immediately fell in love with everything about racing - the stinging perfume of race petrol - the thundering roar of engines revving-up. It made her heart pound. And from a young age she knew that's what she wanted to do.

"I got started racing go-karts at the age of nine. A family friend saw a flyer at a gas station for a local indoor race and suggested to my parents that it might be something that I should get involved in. My parents and I went to the race and from that moment on we were all hooked."

After winning a Duffy at the IKF Grand Nationals (International Karting Federation) and placing second at the Tulsa Shootout, the Sather family concluded it was time to take it up a notch. In '02 they made the move up to a 360-Sprint Car.

"I continued racing sprint cars right up until I started participating in the Drive for Diversity program and moved to Monroe, Washington," says Sather.

"I have been using K&N products throughout my racing career. Not only have I used K&N products such as air and oil filters and dry sump breathers on my late model, but I also used K&N products on my sprint car. K&N has an outstanding line of products. I am always very confident pulling out on to the racetrack knowing that I have K&N products under my hood."

For the 2010 season Sather will carry on focusing on her dream to continue climbing the racing ladder. "I have been working very hard in the off-season to try and make this a reality," she says.

"This winter I have also really gotten involved with my local children's hospital, and I visited with the young kids about how to never, ever give up. I hope to continue with my racing success and to be able to help more and more kids in the future."

Simple Drop-in Performance for the 2009 to 2014 Acura TSX

Washable, Reusable, Replacement Air Filter for the Acura TSX
Washable, Reusable, Replacement Air Filter for the Acura TSX
The second-generation front-wheel-drive Acura TSX was introduced for the 2009 model year and carried over to 2010, 2011 and 2012. This entry-level luxury sedan is much sportier than your typical four-door family car. Features such as leather upholstery, 17 inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control and seven speaker audio system with integrated iPod and satellite radio options, really put the new Acura TSX in a class of its own. Acura's reputation for above-average reliability and performance make the 2009 and 2010 TSX a great choice for a comfortable daily driver.

The TSX is equipped with a 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine that averages 21 to 28 miles per gallon. Although economical, the Acura TSX can not compete with the performance of 6-cylinder or turbo-charged 4-cylinder engines found in other luxury sport sedans. K&N has developed a high-flow replacement air filter (33-2430) for the 2009 to 2014 Acura TSX with the 2.4 liter engine. It is designed to increase horsepower and torque while providing excellent filtration.

The 33-2430 panel air filter was custom engineered to fit the unique shape of the factory airbox as to attain a proper seal. K&N OEM replacement air filters are washable, reusable and come with a million mile limited warranty. The 33-2430 can go up to 50,000 miles depending on driving conditions before it needs to be cleaned. It will be the last air filter your Acura TSX will ever need.

Whether you have the six-speed manual transmission or five-speed automatic, K&N's unique drop-in air filter design makes adding performance to your TSX as easy as removing the old paper filter and replacing it with K&N's high-flow cotton air filter. For Acura TSX owners interested in the environment or just saving money, a washable and reusable air filter will decrease the amount of air filters in our landfills and save you money at the same time.

Rosson Racing Engines Continue to Dominate Lightning Sprint Races

Stuart Hielscher Jr and the No. 9 Lightning Sprint Car
Stuart Hielscher Jr and the No. 9 Lightning Sprint Car
Shane Rosson has been building performance motorcycle engines since 1996. His engines go into Mini Sprint and Dwarf cars. "The tenacity of my work can be seen in the winner's circle," says Rosson. Coming from anyone else that might be dismissed as smack-talk – coming from Rosson though, it verges on understatement.
Kevin Drake will still be driving the number 14 Dwarf Car in 2010

In '07 Rosson Racing dominated Mini Sprint races across the country, kicking tailpipes from one coast to the other. Rosson's cars finished the '07 season with eight Champions and two Rookie's of the Year. In '08 Rosson Racing was named Engine Builder of the Year by CNYMS (Central New York Mini Sprints) for the third straight year. They also continued to amass a freakish large amount of recognized accomplishments including:

Stuart Hielscher Sr and the No. 5 Sprint
Stuart Hielscher Sr and the No. 5 Sprint
Lightning Sprints

* Don ("Rocket") Harvey won his third straight CNYMS Championship
* Brent Sexton won the '08 California Lightning Sprints Championship
* Troy Ullery won the '08 Western Slope Lightning Sprint Championship
* Bob Reichert won the '08 Wisconsin Illinois Mini Sprint Championship
* Bob Reichert also won the '08 Wilmot track Championship
* Beau Heavelow won the '08 Midwest Outlaw Lightning Sprints Championship
* Alec Bender won the '08 California Lightning Sprints Rookie of the Year

Dwarf Cars

* Mike Van Acker won the '08 CDCRA Senior Championship
* Mike Van Acker was also the '08 Victorville Speedway Track Champion
* Mike Van Acker was also the '08 Bakersfield Track Champion
* Kelly Gutches was the '08 SODCA Champion
* Kelly Gutches was also the '08 Southern Oregon Speedway Track Champion
* Kelly Gutches was also the '08 Siskiyou Motor Speedway Track Champion

That sort of sustained track supremacy sparks curiosity, as in, what was up last season?

"I feel we had a great '09 season on a couple of different levels. First, in the California Lightning Sprint Series, our two house cars finished first and third in the championship points. The number five car driven by Stuart Hielscher Sr. won the Championship, and the number nine with Stuart Hielscher Jr. finished third."

"And second, I started a new Dwarf Car chassis company (D&R Chassis), and the prototype car won four out of its first six races. We started production at end of the year, and the first production car won its first night out. It was the number 14 car driven by Kevin Drake," explains Rosson.

"As far as Highlights go, with the Lightning Sprints, it would be watching Stuart Hielscher Sr. win at Santa Maria Speedway in California, he got it done in a purely dominating fashion. And in the Dwarf Cars, it would be me winning my first feature in only my second time ever driving a Dwarf Car."

Over the years Rosson has consumed a massive amount of K&N air filters and other products and now we have a better understanding why that is.

"In 09 the Rosson stable had two Lightning Sprints and one Dwarf Car. I use the K&N air filter element in a filter assembly that I manufacture, and I also use breather vents for a top-end breather kit, that I also make. The thing I discovered about K&N products is that they are so user friendly and they always function as advertised and as they should. I have lost count of the customers that have changed from other brand filters to mine, using the K&N element, because they couldn't keep the dirt out of their intake system any other way."

"I am very excited about the 2010 season. We will have the same cars as last year, as well as a few additions. I am looking to get back in a Lightning Sprint for a limited schedule, as permitted by my Dwarf Car schedule. I will be adding two more Dwarf Cars to the stable too," say Rosson.

"I will be driving the number two Dwarf Car, and my wife Angel, has expressed an interest in driving the number five Dwarf Car in the 2010 season as well. And Kevin Drake will still be driving the number 14 Dwarf Car."

"As far as Lightning Sprints goes it's, Stuart Hielscher Sr, Stuart Hielscher Jr. in the number nine car, and I'll be driving number two. I will also be helping out an up and coming superstar, Jonny Bluntach in the number 18 car. I want to take this opportunity to once again thank K&N for their support of my racing efforts. I look forward to promoting their great products in the future."

K&N Releases Performance Oil Filter for Several 2009 to 2016 Vehicles

K&N has released a new canister oil filter part HP-2011 that fits quite a few 2009 to 2016 vehicles. See the current vehicle application list below. Like most K&N OEM replacement canister oil filters for cars and trucks, the HP-2011 has a 1 inch welded nut for easy removal with a wrench or ratchet set. The nut on the oil filter has a drilled hole for safety wire attachment if desired. The filter also has heavy canister walls to help protect it from rocks and other debris. That Girl Racing Moves Their NHRA Pro-Stock Snowmobile and Asphalt Program to Ice

Loosely paraphrasing a Willie Nelson song "Mammas don't let you babies grow up to be NHRA Pro-Stock drag-sled racers," we say why the tarnations not? Who better to spend time with traveling from race to race? Mother and daughter bonding time is essential, some knit together, others cook, as in going really, really fast - down a grassy, or asphalt drag strip - or an icy one for that matter.

Tiina (That Girl) Duncanson is the mother, Kiersten (That Other Girl) is the daughter - together they are That Girl Racing. Both of the Duncanson girls are world record-breaking, grass, drag-sled racers living in Acton, Ontario, Canada. On the track their style is focused aggression, even when facing each other, putting an entirely new face to the expression "man-up." Off the track Kiersten defines their style as "Anything that's tacky. Big glasses, leg-warmers and cardigans, or just a plain tee and jeans."

"We started out last years' NHRA Pro-Stock snowmobile program with a completely new chassis and motor combo. Our first race was at Route 66 in Joliet, Illinois, and the new combo showed some real potential, but ultimately it was just not fast enough yet," explains Tiina.

"We spent many weekends at Toronto Motorsports Park in Ontario, testing the new combo and slowly getting it better. We ran quite a few more races after that, Syracuse, New York, Milan, Michigan, Epping, New Hampshire, and we slowly started to get it fine-tuned and progressively more competitive. Then at US 131 in Martin, Michigan, back in September, it all came together and we ran an outstanding 8.07 @ 157 mph. We qualified number 1, and went on to win the race."

"We are now getting ready for the ‘ice' season. On ice we use different sleds and run 1/8 mile. Our first race is at the World Series of Ice in Port Huron, Michigan, at the end of January. The next race after that is in Quebec, Canada, at St. Joseph de Beauce, on February 19-21. The weekend after that is our last ice race of the season, at Lake Morey in Vermont," continues Tiina.

In early March That Girl Racing moves back to their quarter-mile sleds, running in Valdosta, Georgia, at an AMA motorcycle event were they race sleds as an Exhibition-Class event. Their first actual race is in Atco, New Jersey, on April 10.

"We run the Lucas Oil NHRA Series in Division's 1 and 3. Some of the other tracks we run at are Norwalk, Maplegrove, Indy, Brainerd and Joliet," adds Tiina.

"We always run K&N products on all our motors. We use RU1480's on the ice sleds with the 48mm carbs, and on our asphalt sleds with the 58mm carbs, we use RX4140. We also installed a 63-2576 intake system on our Ford F-450 tow vehicle. We found it increased our fuel mileage over 1 mpg, which is huge on a vehicle that was getting 9 mpg."
