K&N has developed an air intake system (57-1557) for 2007, 2008 and 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 & 3500 pickups with 6.7 liter diesel engines.  K&N dynamometer testing shows a 20.63 horsepower gain at 2500 rpm and a 43.35lbft gain of torque @ 2500 rpm. This is more than a 10 percent increase in torque over the original intake for improved towing and passing power.

The 57-1557 features a specially molded intake tube and a K&N lifetime replacement filter (RC-5142). The K&N washable and reusable air filter provides increased surface area and dust capacity. The K&N air filter is made of six layers of cotton gauze sandwiched between two epoxy-coated aluminum wire screens. The nature of the cotton allows high volumes of airflow and exceptional filtration efficiency. With proper care diesel motors typically last much longer than gas motors. This K&N air filter provides outstanding filtration efficiency to ensure you get the protection your diesel motor needs.

Our air intake system includes a powder coated steel heat shield which isolates the K&N air filter from engine heat.  It has lower restriction than the factory air box which results in additional power and torque when you need it.

The 57-1557 is designed so the mass air sensor will work with factory stock settings. This means there is no need for re-programming to run our air intake system.

Designed to be installed in 90 minutes or less with simple hand tools, our K&N air intake systems are backed by the famous K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty.

Balog says he hopes to keep promoting K&N straight into the championship this year.
Balog says he hopes to keep promoting K&N straight into the championship this year.
Recently it was back to Beaver Dam Raceway for Bill Balog and his B Squared Motorsports team. In total 31 of finest IRA Sprinters showed up for the race in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin held only a couple of Saturdays ago.
The win at Beaver Dam Raceway keeps intact the teams 14 straight IRA top-five finishes.

After some last second fine-tuning and finagling on his car, Balog started the 30-lap feature race in eighth place. Whatever the team discovered in their heat race and implemented onto the car right before the race worked. At the drop of the green flag Balog was gone, methodically working his way towards the front with each lap. By lap ten he was solidly positioned in second place.

Balog patiently waited for lapped traffic to clear before to attempting his move into first place. However he never had to make that move, with a little help from the race leader, who got himself tangled with lapped traffic, Balog took the lead on the ensuing restart. With 16 laps remaining Balog set a blistering pace and went unchallenged the rest of the way, collecting his third feature win of the year and the tenth of his IRA career.
The 'King of the Kenosha County Fair' now has four IRA feature wins in the last six starts.

The win also kept intact the teams run of top-five finishes, which is now at 14 straight at IRA events. The team also now holds a 66 point lead in the IRA standings with ten events remaining.

"Us being faster than everyone else has a lot to do with our set-up," says Balog. "We hit the set-up right on the head that night, and I could put the car where ever I need to. That was the biggest key in getting us to the front from our eighth place starting spot."

Steadiness resulting from their key preparations has the team staring right into the heart of a championship, and we wondered how he felt about that?

"We feel the championship is getting closer to becoming a reality, but in order for us to capitalize on it, we will just need to stay consistent, like we have been for majority of the year and the points will take care of themselves."

"Well, we're going to some tracks here pretty quick that we have had success at in the past, so hopefully we can continue what we've been doing, and we can get a few more victories before the year is over," adds Balog.

"We would really like to thank K&N for everything they have done for us this year – we hope to continue to help promote the best products ever with a championship as the year goes on."

After their win at Beaver Dam Raceway, last weekend at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wisconsin, Balog was crowned "King of the Kenosha County Fair." The win gives the B Squared Motorsports team their fourth IRA feature win in the last six IRA races.

K&N Sponsored Malmgren Racing Very Successful at Hochenheim Ring in Germany

Malmgren says his team has been smart and consistent all year and that's why they sit atop the points.
Malmgren says his team has been smart and consistent all year and that's why they sit atop the points.
Swedish Pro-Stock drag racer Michael Malmgren illustrated once again why he's one of Europe's most dominant drivers ever. The K&N sponsored Malmgren and his team journeyed to the Hochenheim Ring in Germany, and with 70,000 spectators in the grand stands, he earned yet another trip to the finals, and for all intents and purposes – a FIA European Drag Racing Championship.
Even with a slight wheel-stand Malmgren still managed to qualify with a 6.83 ET.
Even with a slight wheel-stand Malmgren still managed to qualify with a 6.83 ET.

In the first round of qualifying Malmgren had to shut-down, his car was experiencing violent tire shake.

"It's easy to panic in a situation like that and change the whole car around, but we didn't, instead we found a shock sweeper that didn't operate and we fixed it" said Malmgren.

In the next qualifying pass they ran a 6.83, with a lot of tire spin, but still good enough for the number two spot. Now if you figure drag racing is all about stumping the throttle and hanging on for a quarter-mile – think again.
Malmgren pulled out a 6.82 in the semi-final on his way to a joint victory and a huge lead in the championship.
Malmgren pulled out a 6.82 in the semi-final on his way to a joint victory and a huge lead in the championship.

"Third fastest was Mike Kallin, our main competitor for the title," explained Malmgren. "Jimmy Ålund did set the low ET with a stout 6.76. But we decided not to chase Ålund's low ET, or try to set records, the target was too keep Kallin behind us, and have a safe and consistent set up for Sunday, and go to the final."

Malmgren took the first round with a 6.82 ET, setting up a meeting between Kallin and himself in the second round. In that race Kallin pulled off his best run of the weekend, running a 6.89. However, on a tricky track, damp from a steady, building drizzle and on the edge of having the race called, Malmgren covered Kallin with a 6.82. With that win the Malmgren Racing team took a big jump in the championship points race headed into the final race of the season in the United Kingdom in three weeks.

In the other semi-final Jimmy Alund was upset by Jan Palmquist with a 6.92. So things were shaping up well for a Malmgren win in the finals at Hochenheim, as he had been running consistent 6.80 – 6.83 ET's all weekend. Yet, when it comes to fickle, nature clearly has even racing beat. Sunday's final got rained out, and Palmquist and Malmgren left with a shared win.

Malmgren's points lead is so significant now he need only make one qualifying run, and qualify in the UK, in order to win the FIA European Drag Racing Pro-Stock Championship. And according to the latest news, technically speaking, Malmgren may have already sewed it up.

"It seems we will only have eight cars going to the finals at this point, meaning all will qualify," Malmgren informs us. "Many cars have broken engines from the long season, and if you are not in it for the chase, they skip this race in UK, as travel to UK is expensive."

"The key to our success this year is that we have been focused on making consistent runs and to have a safe set up for Sunday, in order to continually gain points, and have this chance at championship. Setting records is nice, but then you run on the edge, and that can bite you on race day."

"Also, this year my team has really come along great, and the team spirit is very high," adds Malmgren. "We really enjoy what we do and what we've been able to achieve. We want to thank K&N for all their support.

K&N Sponsored Huntley Nash Wins AMA Pro SuperSport Race at Laguna Seca

The AMA Pro SuperSport win at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca was Nash's second this season, he also won last month at Elkhart Lake.

The racetrack built in 1957 in Monterey, California has 300 feet of elevation change and eleven turns, including the legendary "Corkscrew." It might be amusing to imagine the corkscrew at turns 8 and 8A to be a creation of pure evil genius, truth is there was really no other choice, considering the terrain and the location of the oak trees that surround it. This track can shatter dreams as furiously as it can create legends.

"It was really awesome. I had a lot of fun that weekend, and seeing how it was during the MotoGP weekend, I was really happy to pull that one off. That's an opportunity not many people get to have, to say that they've won that race, during that weekend, at that track. The track is amazing!"

Those were LTD Racing's Huntley Nash's comments after winning the AMA Pro SuperSport race at Laguna Seca. Nash earned his AMA Pro SuperSport win in California during the support race at United States Grand Prix.

"It's so fast and flowing, and that was really the first time I've gotten along with that track. The track has some corners where you need to be smooth and fast, and the other half of the race track suits my style more, the part where you can charge the bike into the corner, on the brakes pretty hard," explained Nash.
The 18-year-old K&N sponsored racer may as well get used to doing interviews - the young hot-gun will no doubt be doing plenty of them.

"I really like the left to right directional changes, and the elevation changes to the corkscrew, down to the final turns, leading up to the first few turns are my favorite parts of the track. The sixth gear turn one, leading into turn two, is my favorite corner though. You can get over that hill pretty fast and charge it into two and get it pretty sideways."

Nash, winner at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin last month, won this fiercely contested triumph in front of the world stage in Monterey. Nash utilized his "back-it-in" style to stamp his authority on the 18 lap event.

In explaining his "back-it-in" style the 18-year-old Georgian laughs, "I think it's pretty cool to watch! I really like the brakes a lot, and when I get comfortable, it's just something that kind of happens for me. I've been trying to tame it a little bit because sometimes it's not the best way into a lot of corners. Like I said though, it always ends up happening when I'm really comfortable going into the corner. I love riding the bike like that, so I try to use it to my advantage."

"We went through a lot this weekend, crashes and other dramas - the type of stuff you can get into when you have back-to-back race weekends," said the team's Director of Competition Gary Medley.

"It's a lot of stress and when we have a young team like we have, it really pushes everyone. For Huntley to win, it means a lot to the entire team. I can't say enough about him. He's maturing and developing really well."

Nash and the team rode their wave of success at Laguna Seca to the following race at Virginia International Raceway (VIR).

"I felt pretty confident at VIR, we came out with a third and a second. I made some good progress with the bike," said Nash. "I'm trying to get a little bit more confidence with the front end of the bike."

"We have two more races this year, next at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) and then at Barber Motorsports Park. I'm really hoping to win both races at NJMP and show everyone I can do the double. I'm really excited about that weekend, there's going to be a lot of people there and the track is just awesome!"

"Every time I get on the bike I'm feeling better and better with it," said the K&N sponsored racer, "So we'll keep making improvements and go for some more wins."

Edwards Claims Eleventh Number One Qualifier of 2010 in NHRA Pro Stock at Brainerd

NHRA Pro Stock Driver Mike Edwards

Oklahoma's Mike Edwards continues to show he still has one of the top rides to beat, in the always highly competitive NHRA Pro Stock class, with his latest number one qualifier at Brainerd International Raceway for 29th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals.

It was several events ago when Edwards locked down the number one position in the 2010 NHRA Countdown to the Championship, but securing a top spot in the K&N Horsepower Challenge for the 2011 showdown is long from over.

As of late, Mike Edwards and his Penhall/Interstate Batteries/K&N Pontiac GXP has been in a tight battle with fellow competitor, Allen Johnson, both qualifying points and in the regular season Championship.

Due to some weather issues at the Brainerd event, qualifying sessions for all professional and sportsman classes were shortened. Edwards just trailed Johnson by a mere two-thousandths of a second and held on to the number two spot after session number one on Friday.

It was during session two on Saturday that Edwards was able to punch up his way up to the number one spot, greatly improving on his earlier ET by posting a 6.644 and edging out Johnson by a full one-hundredth of a second, who had also improved on his previous number. During the final session, Edwards was only the second quickest with his 6.657, but thanks to his efforts earlier in the day remained on the pole going into Sunday's eliminations and grabbed all possible qualifying points for the K&N Horsepower Challenge, along with the $3,000 bonus check provided by K&N.

From a close number two position, Edwards continues to eat away at the points lead for the 2011 K&N Horsepower Challenge, currently held by Allen Johnson, and hopes of competing again in the most coveted single race in all of NHRA Pro Stock where the event champion takes away $50,000.

While the outcome during first round eliminations on Sunday at Brainerd was not what Edwards was looking for, he still proved that his Penhall/Interstate Batteries/K&N Pontiac GXP is one of the top horsepower producing cars on the circuit. His 6.593 at 209.04 MPH effort, both low ET and top speed of the event, were just not enough for, number sixteen qualifier, Rodger Brogdon's 6.647. Brogdon nailed the tree with a .015 to Edward's .089 and held on to his starting line lead by a full six feet at the stripe.

Coming into first round, Edwards was 7-0 against Brogdon but some tracks just seem to plague drivers more than others. One could say the Brainerd is one of those tracks for Edwards and in twelve appearances he has only garnered six round wins.

After Edwards had locked down the number one spot in the Countdown, he had said that he would go into test mode as much as possible with his K&N Pontiac. Now that the points have been reset going into the biggest race on the entire NHRA schedule, The US Nationals, and a mere 110 points separating the top ten, it will soon be time to see if the testing for both the car and the driver pay dividends.
