K&N continues to improve vehicle performance through its continuous production of new air intake systems guaranteed to increase horsepower and acceleration. K&N's air intake (69-9505T) for 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 Audi A4, A4 Cabriolet and A4 Quattro models with a 2.0 liter engine is just another example of K&N's dedication to outstanding performance. The Audi A4 is an entry-level luxury car with elegant styling and sharp handling. The 2.0 liter engine however, lacks the power one would expect from such a prestigious car.

K&N product developers looked at the restrictive factory intake setup of the Audi A4 and immediately knew they could achieve more horsepower. "Along with a body change in 2009, the Audi A4 air box was also relocated," said product manager Bert Heck. "We had to start from scratch. Our ultimate goal was to get as much power out of the vehicle as we could without affecting the drivability of the vehicle. Older A4 model designs made doing this very difficult."

Development began with the testing of varying intake tube diameters with the mass air sensor installed in both the tube and in the factory mass air housing.  After a series of testing sessions and design changes K&N engineers came up with a design that met all goals.

"With the limited space and use of the factory mass air housing, little space was left for the air filter," commented Heck. "We had to eliminate the intake tube and design a custom hose to replace it.  This saved space and allowed for a larger K&N air filter." The air intake's filter, part RF-1047, is a cone shaped, high-flow air filter that provides excellent filtration, outstanding engine protection, and less restriction than the factory air filter.

A custom heat shield was also designed as part of the 69-9505T intake.  It helps to reduce the amount of hot engine compartment air going into the engine. It also utilizes the factory fresh air inlet to direct cooler outside air into the air intake.

K&N's comprehensive testing of the 69-9505T utilized three test vehicles with approximately 100 dyno pulls, road testing and computer monitoring.  The final result showed a power gain of 13.5 horsepower at 4500 rpm with the use of K&N's 69-9505T air intake system.

Installation of the 69-9505T air intake system is easy with K&N's photo illustrated instruction sheet. K&N's 69-9505T air intake system typically installs on 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 Audi A4, A4 Cabriolet and A4 Quattro models with the 2.0 liter engine in 90 minutes or less with common hand tools.

This K&N air intake comes with washable and reusable air filter that can go for up to 100,000 miles before servicing is needed depending on driving conditions.  K&N air intakes are made to last as they come with a Million Mile Limited Warranty.  Find K&N products for your vehicle using the K&N application search then use the K&N dealer search to find a K&N dealer in your part of the world.

Todd's Performance Driver Curt Michaels Wins at Delaware Speedway

Curt Michaels got his first win of the season back in June at Lincoln Speedway.
Curt Michaels got his first win of the season back in June at Lincoln Speedway.
"The older I get, the faster I was." It's uncertain who first gets credited for that quote, but there' a fair chance it was a retired racer of some ilk. Todd Rittenhouse claims he's retired, about as retired as a team owner can be - Todd's Performance, homed in Norristown, Pennsylvania, is after all his team.

"Up until last year I was the crew chief on the car but I retired from that position at the end of 2009." The car Rittenhouse alludes to is the is number 5G sprint car that won last weekend at Delaware Speedway in Georgetown, Delaware. Driving the 5G was Curt Michaels.

Rittenhouse was crew chief on the 5G for nearly ten years, starting back in 2001. The car is owned by Bill Gallagher and the new crew chief this year is Sean Michael.
Rittenhouse's son Todd Jr. is quickly becoming a big hit on the local race scene.

"I have been on K&N's sponsorship program for something like six or seven years, and they have given us the products to keep us winning championships, and races with consistent top-five finishes with many different drivers, with Curt being the best of course," adds Rittenhouse.

This was Curt's second win of the year, with the first win coming at the Lincoln Speedway in Hanover, Pennsylvania. "The last championship we won was in 2008 and last year we were fourth in the point standings with URC (United Racing Company)," says Rittenhouse.

Delaware Speedway is located on U.S. Route 113, about 1 mile south of Georgetown. During the course of a season attendance at the track gets boosted many nights by fans streaming in via ferry from New Jersey. The track has been known to rock. After sitting silent for a number of years the speedway was recently reopened in May 2006, much to the delight of fans from at least two states.

"Also coming out of this shop is a car run by my son, Todd Rittenhouse Jr. who is also on the K&N program," says Rittenhouse. "This program is shared with the 5G, and he runs 358 sprint cars at Williams Grove Speedway, and 410 sprint cars mainly at Lincoln Speedway. This year he captured a heat and a feature win in the 358 division at Lincoln back in June."

Although Todd is still a relative new-comer he's already establishing quite a fan base with his friendly demeanor and driving flair.

"Up next for us is hopefully winning the URC championship with Curt, and continuing a successful season with the number 23 of Todd Jr.," comments Rittenhouse, adding, "We could not have accomplished this without the great support and products from the people at K&N."

After the feature win at Delaware Speedway the 5G is leading the URC points standings by 31 points.

Vaughn Gittin Jr. and the Monster Energy Falken Tire 2011 Ford Mustang entered Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California for Formula Drift Round 6: Point of Impact. Going into the event, Vaughn was in 1st place overall in the points chase for the Championship, and his goal was to maintain his lead with a podium finish. Not only did he accomplish that goal of keeping his lead, but Vaughn walked away from Sonoma with another win, his second win and fifth podium of the season thus far.

On Saturday, the fans piled into the paddock and filled the stands of Infineon Raceway excited to see all the insane drifting action and cheer on their favorite Formula Drift drivers. After he put down two picture-perfect runs in his battle with Ken Gushi, Vaughn was deemed the winner and would advance into the Sweet Sixteen.

Meeting Vaughn in the top 16 would be Ireland's Dean Kearney. Vaughn led first with an excellent entry and maintained a ton of speed and angle throughout the course. Kearney tried to keep up with the Monster Mustang, but ended up going wide, then straightening up, and just wasn't able to close the gap.

When it was Vaughn's turn to give chase, he followed Dean into the first clipping point and then as Dean slowed down a good amount going into the second clip, Vaughn was forced to tap him with nowhere else to go. Vaughn was awarded the advantage and would be moving on to the Great Eight.

Vaughn was paired with Fredric Aasbo in the top eight; his third time battling this Norwegian drifter this season. Aasbo had taken the win over him at Round 4 in Seattle and Vaughn was determined not to let that happen again. He gave chase first, as Aasbo put down a solid run, but Vaughn was all over him piling on the pressure.

When it was Vaughn's turn to lead, he threw down an amazing run while blazing through the course, and was able to pull a decent gap on Aasbo, giving him a clear advantage. Vaughn was awarded the win and would move on to the Final Four.

Vaughn met fellow K&N drifter and 2009's Formula Drift Champion, Chris Forsberg, in the semi-finals, where they would both stop at nothing to win a spot atop the coveted podium. Forsberg led first with a great run, but wasn't quite able to shake Vaughn from his door throughout the course.

When it was Vaughn's turn to lead, Forsberg attempted to put the same pressure on Vaughn, but ended up going wide and off course after the first turn, ultimately spinning out. Vaughn was awarded the win and would move on to the finals with a guaranteed spot on the podium.

In the finals, Vaughn faced his Drift Alliance teammate, Ryan Tuerck, who he has battled numerous times this season, defeated him every time thus far. Vaughn gave chase first, sticking to Tuerck like glue throughout the course, while maintaining a ton of angle and leaving an insane trail of Falken Tire smoke in his tracks.

When it was Vaughn's turn to lead, he put down one last amazing run of the day, as Tuerck pushed to keep up, but it was just not enough to overcome Vaughn's unbelievable determination and driving. He was deemed the winner of the battle and Round 6 at Infineon Raceway.

"Winning this round makes this dream-season even more unbelievable for me and I don't want to wake up," says Vaughn. "The success I am experiencing on the track is due to multiple variables; most notably our reliable 2011 Ford Mustang and my incredible team that I appreciate more than words can explain. I look forward to carrying this momentum to Irwindale!"

With his 1st place finish at Round 6, Vaughn remains the Championship points leader. He is 58 points ahead of Dai Yoshihara in 2nd place, and 75.5 points ahead of Tanner Foust in 3rd place. This is Vaughn's fifth podium this year out of the six rounds, setting the record for the most podiums in history by a Formula Drift driver going into the final round.

Vaughn Gittin Jr. and the Monster Energy Falken Tire Ford Mustang head to Irwindale Speedway, otherwise known as "The House of Drift", October 8-9 for Formula Drift Round Seven. Vaughn has had three victories at this track, so you can bet he will be aiming for not only another podium finish, but ultimately to claim the 2010 Formula Drift Championship title.

Josh Lucas Racing Pulls Out Very Popular Victory at Richmond Speedway

Lucas went to work at Richmond Speedway and brought home his second victory of the year at the track.
Lucas went to work at Richmond Speedway and brought home his second victory of the year at the track.
On the drivers-side door of the Josh Lucas number 78 car he has painted - "Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way." That pretty much sizes up how the man races and lives his life.

Open wheel modified racer Josh Lucas and his team recently visited Richmond Speedway and they qualified second, only one-hundredth of a second behind "the guy that wins there every week." When Lucas came in from qualifying though he had bad news for his team, "something's wrong with the transmission," he said. They drained the tranny fluid, got a magnet, and separated as much metal as they could. "We came very, very close to loading it up for the night," said K&N sponsored racer.

Lucas took the car around in the pits a bit and said there was a grinding noise, but only when he started, he didn't hear it when he revved the engine. "So we decided to run the 10-lap heat." He won the heat without problems, which again put him beside "the guy that wins there every week."
Lucas says his son already has the race bug, Landen names his toy cars after popular racers and helps dad work on his car as often as possible.

The pole-sitter got the jump on Lucas at the start, but Lucas took the lead away from him on lap eight. He led for nearly three laps before a caution flag halted racing. At the restart they put the other guy ahead of Lucas, and the crowd went berserk. Lucas stopped and said something to the official, but he finally slipped back behind the pole-sitter and got on with racing. Once the green flag dropped Lucas was back around the guy within a half lap.

"After several more cautions and a lot of prayers that the transmission wouldn't fail us, we came home with our second victory there," remarked Lucas. The Lucas Racing team is now two-for-two at Richmond Speedway. And in fact, the guy that wins there every week, doesn't, whenever Lucas has been there.

"It was really a sweet victory, first knowing the transmission could go out at any moment, then to lead a race for over two and a half laps, and to be put back in second position, well, it was really a thrill when the checkered flag was waving for the win. Once again the fans went wild, they all knew I lead that race long enough so that I shouldn't have been put in second place."

Lucas adds "Well, I don't like to gossip, but we've heard that the pole-sitter is kind of local, know what I mean? And it didn't sit too well when he has won so many in a row, and I came in there and won not once, but twice."

Asked what he said to the official after the first caution "I just ask the official on the track what was the deal, I lead the race for over two laps. His response was I only do what they tell me to do. So I got really fired up, I knew I had the lead, and the tranny could go anytime, so I just made my mind up to settle this for good. When the green flag dropped, I went back around and left him. He wasn't even close this time."

"The season is winding down for the year, but the crew is thinking we may need to go to this track one more time before it closes for the season. I love the track, but it is very hard to pass on, so track position is very important. We will see, maybe we can do it again."

"There is also a two day show at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, Kentucky, October 1 and 2. We like two day shows, so may take that one in. I really want to thank K&N for their continued support. K&N products are amazing." concludes Lucas.

At first glance, the 2010 to 2016 Toyota FJ Cruiser bears a strong resemblance to its famous sibling, the FJ40 Land Cruiser. But underneath its skin, more than 40 years of off-road heritage combine with modern conveniences like satellite radio, a reverse/backup camera, and traction control to bring Toyota off-road enthusiasts a very capable machine. Power is generated by Toyota's proven and reliable 4.0L V6 engine. However, the true performance potential of the 4.0 is held back, due to restriction in the stock air intake system.

K&N Air Intake System for 2010 to 2016 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Air intake system designers at K&N knew there was more performance potential hidden underneath the hood of the FJ. The 63-9034 intake system for the 2010 to 2016 FJ Cruiser, helps uncover much of that hidden performance. The 63-9034 will also fit 2010 to 2016 Toyota 4Runners with 4.0L V6 engines.

With the K&N 63-9034 restrictive air intake components are removed and replaced with K&N-designed components which have less restriction. The factory air filter and air box are replaced with a reusable K&N conical air filter (part number RF-1044XD), which has very low restriction and excellent filtration. K&N's air intake tube is constructed of a roto-molded material that provides a smooth inside surface and eliminates even more of the restriction created by the factory intake. Air flow restriction keeps an engine from running at its peak efficiency and power output. How much power does restriction rob from a 2010 to 2016 FJ? K&N testing shows about 12 horsepower and 13.91 lb.-ft. torque at 4600 RPM!

A powder-coated steel heat shield protects the air filter from engine heat, as well as the occasional splashes you might encounter while out on the trail. Detailed, photo-illustrated instructions make the 63-9034 easy to install, requiring only basic hand tools. You can even watch an installation video of this air intake on a 2010 FJ Cruiser. Installation of the K&N 63-9034 can be completed in 90 minutes or less, and is backed by K&N's Million Mile Limited Warranty.
