K&N Engineering's Universal Air Filter RU-5147
From racing vehicles to radio controlled cars K&N Engineering makes universal air filters for just about any need.  A new universal air filter, part RU-5147, has just been released that will expand this wide range of applications even further.  If you have a snowmobile, tractor or generator to name a few, one of our K&N Universal Air Filters will probably fit your equipment.

The new  RU-5147 round tapered filter has a 6.5 inch (165 mm) base outside diameter, and a 5 inch (127 mm) flange inside diameter.

The flange length is 1 inch (24mm) which allows plenty of room to clamp around many engine intakes. The height of the filter is 5.5 inches (140 mm) with a top outside diameter of 4.5 inches (114mm).

All K&N universal air filters are constructed with ultra-strong molded pliable rubber edges which absorb vibration and allow for a secure strong attachment that can also be stretched for up to 1/16 inches (1.5mm) to fit in-between sizes.

K&N universal air filters are ideal for extended use in dirty and dusty conditions and are washable and reusable. The K&N (RU-5147) Universal Air Filter like all K&N air filters are work horses. They typically provide longer service intervals and are designed to increase horsepower and acceleration.

Laura Poorter Completes Practice Runs, Ready for Irwindale Ford Focus Midget Race

A fresh new face will emerge Saturday April 1st in the USAC California Ford Focus Midget Series at Irwindale Speedway. Laura Poorter is only 17-years-old, petite and a long way from her native Holland.

Her English is very good and she speaks with a slight accident, but she has mastered the language of the track. Like Wonder Woman, Laura Poorter has the strength to control her K&N Engineering Ford Focus Midget. She has been driving since she was 9-years-old, her first comfort zone was behind the wheel of a mini-kart.

Her desire for speed has taken her thousands of miles away from her family for one reason, and one reason only, to compete. Currently she is staying in a southern California hotel, waiting for her host family to arrive. “I miss my family very much, but my car is really cool,” said Laura. “I like the speed very much.”

Laura spends a majority of her time in her room studying. “I have so much home-work,” she said, like any other teenager. “Economics, Dutch, History and Geography, I have a full load of classes.”

Last week, she had a practice run at Irwindale. “My Ford Focus Midget performed well,” said Laura. “I don’t know how fast I was during the trial runs because there was no one else on the track. We tuned a few things on the midget and it turned out to be a very productive run.”

The Ford Focus Midget Series is a baby in the world of racing. It began in 2002 and is one of the first steps for young drivers who want to go into racing. It is affordable, reliable, entry level racing designed to fill a niche.

Laura raced in Europe and has competed in the same series as several Formula One drivers. She is not afraid and looking forward to her first race on April 1st at Irwindale Speedway. “I’m really excited about my race on Saturday,” she said. K&N Engineering's Sports Marketing Director Charles Maier was impressed my Laura during a race in Belgium last year. This year Laura is part of the K&N family.

Add 11 HP to a 2005 or 2006 Toyota Tundra V-6 4.0L Engine with New K&N Air Intake

The Toyota Tundra is a big part of the so-called commuter pickup market. It's more agile than other full-size pickups, because it's slightly smaller. Even though it's longer than most, Tundra drivers can navigate city streets a lot easier than drivers of really big trucks.

The 2006 model has virtually the same updates as the 2005 Tundra, including an all-new base V-6 4.0 Liter engine. With the addition of K&N Engineering's new 63-Series Intake Kit (63-9028), 2005 and 2006 Tundra owners can realize an 11 horsepower gain.

The Tundra has extra space under the hood and K&N Engineer's were able to put a large cone filter and heat shield under the hood. K&N intakes are designed to dramatically reduce intake restriction as they smooth and straighten air flow. This allows your pickup's engine to use a larger volume of air than the OEM air filter assembly. More air means more power and torque when you need it.

The Tundra is not as full-sized as the Nissan Titan or the domestic pickups, such as the Ford F-150, Dodge Ram, Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, but it's capable of hauling up to 2025 pounds or towing up to 7100 if it is equipped to do so. With a K&N Air Charger consumers who are towing heavy loads should see a performance difference.

Our 63-Series Intakes are designed to be installed with simple hand tolls in under 90 minutes and include the famous K&N Million Mile Warranty.

Phil Burkart, #4 in Points, Preparing for the NHRA O’Reilly Spring Nationals

Phil Burkart is preparing for the NHRA O’Reilly Spring Nationals in the city of Baytown at a venue known as Houston Raceway Park. At the event, drivers named Scelzi, Worsham, Medlen, Johnson, Pedregon and Bazemore will all arrive as major stars, but it’s Burkart who will enter the race ahead of each and every one of them in points.

This is his third full season driving the blue Checker, Schuck’s, Kragen Monte Carlo and Burkart has made a mark for Team Worsham by working hard, striving to improve and focusing on results.

Team Worsham uses K&N Engineering’s premium Performance Gold Oil Filters on its vehicles. The thick canister walls on the K&N filter have extra strength and durability which reduces the risk of damage from loose rocks and debris on the race track.

Last year Burkart entered the season’s third race in Gainesville at the top of the points list. Twenty-one races and seven months remained in the 2005 season, and Burkart was No. 1 in points. By the time he arrived in Baytown, Burkart had slipped to 5th in points on his way to an eventual 12th place finish. This year Burkart is already doing much better than he did one year ago. He will enter this weekend’s race in the No. 4 spot in points, with a 5-3 record.

“It’s been a much different beginning to the season, there’s no doubt about that,” Burkart said. “Last year, we got off to a bit of a crazy start, and although we didn’t win either of the first two races we won enough rounds to take over the points lead. This year, we’ve been very consistent and we’ve gotten round wins we’ve deserved. We’ve beaten John Force and Gary Scelzi, and we’ve gotten out of the first round at all three races, so that’s all good.”

Last year we learned every season is critical, and the season is full of a lot of races, Burkart said.

“People like to say the season is a marathon, which is true, but it’s a marathon made up of 23 races and each race is made up of sprints. So, basically its marathons made up of a bunch of short sprints, and every one is important,” said Burkart. “If we do our best each time, we’ll get good results. So far it’s working.”

The Houston track is very similar to Gainesville, in that it’s just about at sea level, but the air can be more humid then Florida, said Team Worsham manager Bob Wilber. “The key to Houston is the Friday night run, which can be a big “home run session” if the conditions are good,” he said. “We don’t’ run at night in Gainesville, just late afternoon, but on Friday in Houston we run under the lights and that’s generally when you see the big numbers go up on the board. Over the years they’ve worked hard to make the Houston track very smooth and very fast, and we go there with the mindset that it will take great performance to win.” The forecast for this weekend looks to be good, said Wilber. “We’ll be there to push the envelope.”

Burkart is not making any predictions when it comes to Baytown weekend.  “I never predict performance because, for one thing, there are too many variables with these cars. Then, even if you get it all just right, there’s the variable you have no control over, and that’s the team in the other lane,” he said. “You can put your best possible lap on the board in this sport, your career best, and still get beat. All I know is that we are fully capable of keeping this up all year. We can win races, and I think we will. We can win this weekend, but we’ll just have to see.”

“As always, we run K&N on our funny cars,” said Wilber. “We wouldn’t dream of entering a race without K&N filters.”

K&N Air Filter Released for Hybrid Honda Civic with 1.3 Liter Engine

The Honda Civic hybrid is one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles on the road. Tailpipe emissions on the Honda Civic are very low and many shoppers choose hybrids to minimize the impact on the environment. Overall, hybrid sales in the United States have grown from 9500 in 2000 to over 200,000 in 2005.

K&N's Replacement Air Filter for the 2003, 2004 and 2005 Honda Civic 1.3L
K&N Engineering has designed a new lifetime replacement air filter (33-2338) for the 2003, 2004, and 2005 Honda Civic 1.3L L4 F/1 Honda Civic. For more than 35 years we've manufactured serious air filters completely unlike traditional disposable filters.

The K&N high flow air filter is washable, reusable and built to last for the life of an automotive engine. The filter consists of four sheets of cotton gauze layered between two sheets of aluminum wire mesh. The media is then pleated and oiled to enhance its filtering capabilities and overall performance.

K&N filter's are environmentally friendly and reduce the volume of disposable air filters that end up in landfills. The federal government is currently offering tax incentives for Hybrid Electric Vehicle's (HEV's) and other alternative fuel vehicles.

The Honda Civic Hybrid combines the best features of the internal combustion engine with an electric motor. HEV's also convert energy normally wasted during coasting and breaking into electricity, which is stored in a battery until needed by the electric motor. The electric motor is used to assist the engine when accelerating or hill climbing and in low-speed driving conditions where internal combustion engines are lest efficient.

K&N's replacement air filters are designed to increase horsepower and acceleration while providing excellent filtration. Our stock replacement air filters for street vehicles are covered by our famous K&N Million-Mile Limited Warranty and will be the last air filter your vehicle will ever need.
