Artistry in Iron Show at the 2016 Las Vegas Bike Fest Features Amazing Custom Bikes

The centerpiece of the 16th Annual Las Vegas Bike Fest was the Artistry in Iron show and competition. The event lived up to its name as artistry oozed from every detail of the over-the-top creations of the visionary bike builders. The invitational event featured a wide range of the industry’s most talented metal-bending, torch-wielding, paint-spraying moto artists working today. These sculptors did not disappoint.

Perhaps the most refreshing aspect of the Artistry in Iron event was the diversity of the custom bikes on display. It was a huge departure from the copycat choppers that were prevalent in the made-for-TV chopper shows of the last decade. The bikes gracing the voluminous show hall on Vegas’ famed Fremont Street were as singular and unique as the men who crafted them. While there were, of course, many customs built with the venerable American V-twin engine, the other power-plants that the builders chose to craft around, had their origins all around the world. Vintage Japanese inline fours, British parallel twins, and single-cylinder beauties from around the world were some of the tasty items on the menu. Engine sizes ranged from miniscule 50 cubic centimeter singles to massive V-twin over-builds.

Aesthetically, the mix of concepts and motifs was as panoramic as any motorcycle show I have attended. There were customs that featured over-the-top metal flake and candy-hued paint jobs. There were creations that wore the patina of time with carefully crafted rust and faded paint for a vintage aura. There were customs that celebrated the naked purity of bare metal. Yes, it seems the new era of custom bike artists have broken the chains of conformity in both brand and concept.

While diversity was on the menu, over-the-top choppers are certainly alive and well

Show bikes often feature completely open intakes in the form of air scoops or velocity stacks. Everyone knows that this display choice is fine for the sterile event hall but would insure an early death for the engine on the mean streets. Several of the customs that were more purpose-built and “real world” ready were adorned with the best air filters and intakes in industry – K&N. We will feature full profiles on a few of these builds and builders in coming days.

They say a picture paints a thousand words so I’ll stop talking and let you click on the photos of some of the amazing creations featured in at the Artistry in Iron event. Again, notice the wide-ranging design themes featured at the show. No cookie cutter customs here!

Rid Yourself of Uninvited Guests in Your 2015 - 2016 F-150 With a K&N Cabin Air Filter

K&N VF2049 washable cabin air filter for 2015-2016 Ford F-150

Capture pollen, mold, dust and other irritants before they reach the cabin of your 2015 – 2016 Ford F-150

No one wants to roll onto the job or camp site sneezing, with itchy eyes and a scratchy throat because they drove through a grove of pollen-laden trees. That’s why Ford installed a cabin air filter all versions of the F-150 from 2015 – 2016, including those equipped with the 2.7 L, 3.5 L, and 5.0 L engines. A cabin air filter is installed in-line between the air intake for the cabin and the HVAC unit and is designed to stop pollen, mold, dust, bacteria, and other micro-pests from entering the cabin and attacking your immune system.

These filters are important as without them driving your truck could literally make you sick. Without a cabin air filter, thousands of uninvited passengers like bacteria, dust, pollen and other allergens could be slipping into your truck each day. And many manufacturers rely upon old-school, inexpensive paper filters for this important task.

Here’s where it gets better. K&N has developed a replacement cabin air filter, part number VF2049, that is improved over the stock Ford filters in several important ways.

K&N cabin air filters are the first of their kind designed to replace your vehicle's stock cabin air filter with a washable and reusable upgrade that cleans and freshens incoming air. K&N cabin air filters are electrostatically charged to grab and hold dust and other airborne particles. They also help control odors by capturing the perpetrators that cause them: mold, mildew, fungus, spores, and germs, to name a few.

Box for K&N VF2049 washable cabin air filter for 2015-2016 Ford F-150

Everything needed to install the VF2049 cabin air filter in your 2015 – 2016 Ford F-150 is included in the box

Made of a unique non-woven synthetic material, the same air filter media used in hospitals and other health care facilities, K&N’s VF2049 cabin air filter is an easy upgrade for your F-150's cabin air filter. In addition, K&N cabin air filters are designed to fit your truck perfectly and seal tightly, thanks to the precision-engineered polyurethane frame. For your convenience, each filter comes ready to install straight out of the box.

Replacing the cabin air Filter is a fast swap – it’s as simple as exchanging the old, dirty filter for a new one. The housing for the filter is located behind the glove box and the filter can be replaced by removing a few clips by hand and two screws. Detailed instruction sheets are provided on the product web page for the 2015 – 2016 Ford F-150.

The only maintenance required for a K&N cabin air filter is a service you can do yourself in no time at all. At intervals of about 12 months or 12,000 miles, depending on driving conditions, use the two-part K&N cabin air filter refresher kit, part number 99-6000, to easily clean your air filter. This will bring it back to virtually new condition and ready to protect your car’s cabin and your passengers.

The process is simple: remove the filter from your vehicle. Once out of the vehicle spray the K&N cabin air filter cleaner onto the filter and rinse it with water to remove all accumulated dirt, dust, and other foreign matter. Allow the filter to dry naturally for 20-30 minutes and then apply the K&N cabin air filter refresher to the filter media. Lastly, re-install the filter back into your F-150 and you’re ready for another 12 months or 12,000 miles – without having to purchase a new filter.

Your K&N cabin air filter has been designed to last for years of use and is guaranteed by K&N’s 10-Year/100,000 Mile Limited Warranty.

To find additional K&N upgrades for cars, trucks, scooters, motorcycles, motorhomes, or almost anything that combusts fuel internally, use the K&N search by vehicle tool. Find an authorized K&N dealer nearby using the K&N dealer search. Visit Ford F150 Cabin Air Filters for a list of all K&N cabin air filters for the Ford F150.

Gilliland Wins Sixth K&N Pro Series West Race of Season, Leads Points Race

Ryan Partridge won pole at Meridian Speedway in Idaho

Ryan Partridge won the pole for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Meridian Speedway in Idaho. It was his third pole in a row and his fifth of the season

NASCAR Next driver Todd Gilliland won the K&N Pro Series West race at Meridian Speedway in Idaho and took a commanding lead in the K&N Pro Series West standings. Two women drivers finished on the podium.

“We started the year not too great at the real tiny, quarter-mile tracks,” Gilliland said. “I think that showed at Orange Show where we finished fourth. Then going back to Stateline Speedway, then here, and getting two wins. I feel like we’ve been strong everywhere we’ve gone.”

Gilliland took the lead on a green-white-checkered flag finish in the NAPA Auto Parts/Idaho 208. The race was extended eight laps because of a multicar crash five laps from the scheduled end. Ryan Partridge, who won the pole, his third in a row and fifth of the season, spun out during the green-white-checker finish. He led a race-high 173 laps and was in the lead on lap 214.

Gilliland passed Partridge on lap 215 and took the checkered flag for his sixth win of the season. Gilliland and Partridge battled for most of the race. Partridge was out front for the first 60 laps. Gilliland took the lead on lap 135 and was out front for 28 laps. Partridge regained the lead on lap 164, but the crash on lap 203 brought out a red caution flag.

When the race resumed, Partridge spun out. By the time he recovered, Gilliland won the race and Partridge crossed the finish line in 11th place. Gilliland has won seven races in his rookie season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. He also won the season opener in the K&N Pro Series East at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida.

“It feels amazing,” Gilliland said. “That’s something we definitely wouldn’t have imagined going into this year. I think we set our goals saying we wanted to win a race in the whole season and finish in the top 10 in points. Now we find ourselves six wins in and in the points lead going in to the last race, it’s really crazy.”

NASCAR Next driver Julia Landauer was second, her best career finish in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. It matched the best finish by a woman driver in the history of the K&N Pro Series West.

“This was a rough little ride,” Landauer said. “We started eighth, it wasn’t where we wanted to start. But just kept picking them off. The outside line was definitely really good on the restarts. That’s where I did really well. “This is by far the best the car has been all season. We’ve worked really hard. I’m super psyched. I want to get the win at Roseville now.”

Nicole Behar, a NASCAR Next alum making her third K&N Pro Series West start of the season, was third. She has three top-10 finishes in her three K&N Pro Series West races.

“It was a pretty rough race,” Behar said. “Just tried to stay out of the crashes and the incidents in the beginning. I think the main part was just staying out of the crashes, try to save your stuff and be there at the end. I think that’s what we did.

“It got rough in the end, but we held on and came away with a third-place finish.”

“We were able to capitalize on a small there mistake by (Partridge) and we were able to get the win,” Gilliland said. “It’s goes to feel good going into Roseville knowing that we are in control.”

The K&N Pro Series West season finale is at All American Speedway in California on Oct. 15.

Noah Gragson Wins Third K&N NASCAR Pro Series Race In a Row at New Jersey Motorsports Park

Justin Haley won pole at New Jersey Motorsports Park

Justin Haley won the pole for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at New Jersey Motorsports Park. It was his second pole of the season

Noah Gragson is on a roll in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. He won his third K&N Pro Series race in a row by taking the JustDrive.com 125 at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

He won both NASCAR K&N Pro Series West races at the Utah Motorsports Complex doubleheader. His win in the K&N Pro Series East race at New Jersey Motorsports Park made it three in row and the fifth of his K&N Pro Series career. He also won the K&N Pro Series East race at Stafford Motor Speedway in Connecticut in June.

Noah Gragson (7) won the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at New Jersey Motorsports Park. It was his third K&N Pro Series win in a row

“Being able to race there, get two wins is a lot of confidence for me,” Gragson said about winning the races in Utah. “I was able to know what the tires were going to do there at the end. I run around there until the halfway break, like a lot of people did. After the halfway break, we went really, really hard, trying to pass as many cars as possible.”

It is also the NASCAR Next driver’s third win in a row on road courses. He started on the second row and took the lead on lap 48 of the 55-lap race. He crossed the finish line 2.030 seconds ahead of Dominique Van Wieringen. Justin Haley won the pole and led the first lap before Van Wieringen took the lead. She was out front for four laps before giving way to Spencer Davis.

“We had to ride around a lot, conserve our tires. This track surface is really rough,” Haley said. “The tires just get ate up. The first half there, we were just kind of riding, played it well. The second half didn’t have any cautions, there were no cautions through the whole race. That hurt us a little bit.”

John Holleman passed Davis for the lead on lap 9. Van Wieringen, who started the race on the fifth row, regained the lead on lap 30 and held it for 18 laps. “A few cars went out there and led some laps and were going really hard,” Gragson said. “I was thinking big-picture racing. Last week there in Utah, I did it two times. We had races similar like this, same formatting, with only one set of tires. Really long races, I think that’s where the experience came through.”

On lap 47, Gragson took his first lead in the race, passing Van Wieringen for the last eight laps. Haley crossed the finish line in second, followed by Kyle Benjamin in third. Colin Cabre was fourth. Van Wieringen dropped to fifth when the checkered flag flew.

“I ran her down and caught her in one part of the race track,” Gragson said. “I pulled a really good crossover move on her to take the lead and put on a real nice show for the fans. Led about seven laps there at the end.” Benjamin said he has little experience on road courses and will be more prepared the next time the KN Pro Series visits a road course.

Noah Gragson, center, celebrates with the top five finishers in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Justin Haley was second, Kyle Benjamin was third, Collin Cabre was fourth and Dominique Van Wieringen was fifth

“We had a pretty decent night,” Benjamin said. “I don’t have a lot of real road course experience. I’ve been learning as I’ve went. We made a lot of gains in practice. I’m definitely leaving here a better road racer than when I came. I should be better next time.”

In 12 K&N Pro Series East races, Gragson has won twice, has four top-five and six top-10 finishes. He is fourth in the K&N Pro Series East standings despite missing one race.

“NASCAR, K&N, without them, we wouldn’t be racing here at New Jersey Motorsports Park,” Gragson said. “This is huge, not for me, but for my team. Every single one of us. They work their tails off in the shop every week.”

Haley leads the K&N Pro Series East standings by 29 points over Benjamin. The K&N Pro Series East season finale is at Dover International Speedway on Sept. 30.
