“I had a good run,” said Sammy Swindell after winning the number five spot in
the sixth National Sprint Tour (NST) event of the season at Hutchinson Raceway
Park in Hutchinson, Kansas. “There was a lot of traffic, but I managed to pass a
couple of guys.”
Guy Forbrook Owned Mopar
The sold out crowd of 7,000 was on its feet for the 30 lap main event. Tim
Kaeding took the lead in lap five of the April 21st event and stayed there. By
lap ten the top five racers were Kaeding, Steve Kinser, Jason Solwold, Tim
Shaffer and Jason Meyers. Sammy Swindell had moved up to sixth position.
There was a battle between Swindell and Meyers for most of the 24 car race.
Meyers was able to hold his position and got by Solwold in turns three and four
with only six laps to go on the semi-baked dirt oval. Two laps later Sammy also
passed Solwold and the top five finishers in the main event were set. It ended
with Kaeding, Kinser, Shaffer, Meyers and Swindell.
“The track was really dusty and there was a lot of loose stuff flying around,”
said Swindell. “At one point we had to dig all the clay out from under the hood,
it was everywhere except the engine.”
Swindell was driving the Guy Forbrook-owned Mopar-powered Volcano Joe’s Coffee/Wirtgen
Maxim. Forbrook Motors has used K&N Engineering products for years.
“The K&N filter kept all the clay out of the engine,” said Swindell. “The K&N filter did its job, that’s why we use them in every race.” Swindell is a three
time World of Outlaws champion and one of the WoO’s top 10 drivers in point
standings.
National Sprint Tour action continues May 2 at Davenport Speedway in Davenport,
Iowa. Swindell’s next World of Outlaws race is April 29 at Knoxville Raceway in
Knoxville, Iowa.

Michael McCann of North Canton, Ohio, led the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World
Challenge GT Series at Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach for 21 of 29 laps.
Driving downtown on city streets, going fast then slow, then fast is very
difficult on brakes.
Mike McCann and Rob Foster at Long Beach Grand Prix
“There was no time for my brakes to cool off and they started to go toward
the end of the race,” said McCann. “Just before the next to the last corner Ron
Fellows made an aggressive outside pass in his Cadillac. In my attempt to
re-pass Ron I got between gears and allowed Tommy Archer to go by. I went from
first to third with only one corner to go.”
McCann was third in the #82 McCann Plastics/K&N Filters/Dodge Viper, 1.338
seconds behind Fellows. Fellows edged Tommy Archer by 0.730 seconds and won the
inaugural SCCA SPEED GT Championship on the Streets of Long Beach.
McCann said he never gave a thought of bumping Fellows out of the way as the
driver of the Cadillac made his pass. “I don’t drive that way. He made a good
pass, and he deserved it,” said McCann. “I just thought, wow, I can’t believe he
(Fellows) did that, it was really good. Then I made the mistake of grabbing the
wrong gear and Tommy moved in as well.”
McCann leads the SPEED World Challenge Drivers with 74 points after the first
three races of the season. At Sebring, Florida, McCann earned the first win of
his SCCA pro Racing SPEED World Challenge career, by taking the SCCA SPEED GT
portion of the 54th Annual Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring by 11.571 seconds.
“Competition is my whole life,” said McCann. “We’re in this for the
championship.” The SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge consists of 11 races
beginning at Sebring in March and ending in October at Laguna Seca, California.
McCann uses K&N Engineering oil and air filters in his cars. “I’ve used K&N
since I was a kid racing motorcross,” said McCann. “I was 10-years-old then, now
I’m 43.”
McCann said when he thinks about high-performance he thinks of K&N. “When K&N
started making filters for Vipers, putting on the K&N filter was a necessity,”
he said.
The next round of the SCCA SPEED GT Challenge series will be May 19-21 at
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, in Lexington, Ohio.

“I have never won anything in my life before this,” said Dirk Levens, of
American Muffler, Brake and Radiator. “I can’t believe I’m going to the Indy
500.”
Dirk Levens Winner of K&N's Indy or Bust Contest
Dirk Levens is one of 5 winners in the K&N Engineering contest, 2006 Indy
or Bust. The 51-year-old Thousand Oaks, California resident said he is thrilled.
“I’ve never been to the Indy 500, my wife Joy and I plan to go and have a great
time,” he said.
The K&N contest started on May 12, 2005 and ended December 31, 2005. Owners or
managers of an Authorized K&N Service Center, (installer of K&N product) sent in
photos of a sign attached to their repair facility that said, “K&N Installed
Here.” Photos, along with a completed entry form were entered in a drawing.
Winners received a trip for 2 to the 2006 Indianapolis 500 Mile race.
“I stock K&N filters and put on a couple of K&N FIPKs (Fuel Injection
Performance Kits) a week,” said Levens. “My customers notice a huge increase in
power. I work on a lot of trucks, SUV’s and diesels.”
Levens, along with the other 4 winners, will receive a 4-day 3-night trip,
roundtrip coach air transportation, hotel accommodations, garage access (except
on race day) and grandstand seating at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Nathan Hersey, 28, of Wilson Service Center in Stewarts Town, Pennsylvania is
also a winner. “I got the call on a Friday and it made my weekend,” said Hersey.
“I really didn’t expect to win.”
Hersey said he gets a lot of feedback from customers that use K&N products.
“They comment all the time that K&N filters help with gas mileage and engine
performance,” Hersey said. “K&N makes great products,” he said. “I use K&N on my
Ford Explorer, Ford Focus, Ford F-150 and Ford Mustang.”
Winners will receive vehicle allowances up to $80 per day for 4 days, one
parking pass and $500 in spending money. The approximate retail value of the
each prize is $3,000.
K&N selected the winners in a random drawing at the NHRA Winternationals in
Pomona, California.
King's Muffler, Bakersfield, California
Contest winner John King, 66, of Kings Muffler in Bakersfield, California
is a very generous man. “I’ve been to the Indy 500 twice so I’m sending my son
and his girlfriend. They are very excited about going,” said King. “I’m and
oldie but goody and have been working on brakes and front end alignments since
1966. I’ve also used K&N for years.”
When it comes to K&N products, King said he gets all positive feedback from his
customers. “They notice better mileage and better horsepower,” he said.
The final winners of K&N’s Indy or Bust contest are:
Joseph Layman - Murph’s Mufflers and More
John King – Kings Muffler
Dirk Levens – American Muffler, Brake and Radiator
Pat Manahan – Madman’s Muffler and Automotive
Nathan Hersey – Wilson Service Center

Prix.
Spike TV's Power Block Host Courtney Hansen
At least 180,000 people attend the Grand Prix with around 25,000 stopping
at the K&N booth during the three day event. The Speed Zone Girls signed
autographs along with racers Vaugh Gitten Jr. and Terry Borcheller to name a
few.
Borcheller runs our stock air filter with Brian Nott’s new Blackforest Racing
Ford Mustang. He was sixth, only 17 seconds away from the win at the Grand-Am
Cup Series at Daytona. The 39-year-old racer said he uses K&N because of the
performance gain and fuel economy. Borcheller has 57 Professional Race wins in 7
series at 20 tracks. K&N has been part of my racing life since I saw the K&N
sticker for the first time when I was 5-years-old, said Brocheller.
Spike TV Power Block show host Courtney Hansen was also signing autographs at
the K&N booth in Long Beach. “Courtney is an avid K&N user,” said K&N
Engineering, Inc. Truck and Trailer Specialist Tony Yorkman. “She puts our
products in her 2004 Ford Thunderbird.”
The K&N truck and trailer can be seen at races and events throughout the United
States from February through November. Everyone who visits and opts to fill out
a survey has the opportunity to win a K&N Intake System. “We gave away 6 free
K&N Intake Systems at Long Beach,” said Yorkman. “People know the K&N name.” K&N
Intakes are engineered to work within your vehicle’s specifications while
maximizing power and allowing air to flow with little restriction.

The K&N Crew answered a lot of questions about the benefits of our
reusable filters. A K&N filter can perform for up to 100,000 miles before
service is required. K&N is the premier manufacturer of filtration products for
nearly every vehicle on and off the road. There is also a high-tech interactive
system in our booth that shows how K&N filters work.
In May the K&N 18-wheeler will be parked at the NHRA Sport Compact Nationals in
Englishtown, New Jersey and the IRL Indy 500 in Indianapolis Indiana.
Dragster racer Milt Gedo has knocked off a major event from his “to-do” list. The
37-year-old Pahrump, Nevada resident won Super Comp at the NHRA National Event
at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in April.
Super Comp Racer Milt Gedo at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
“Vegas, is my biggest single event win,” said Gedo. “My biggest overall
win was in 2003 when I took the Division 5 Super Comp Championship. That was for
being good an entire season. In Vegas, I was good for three days.”
The index in Las Vegas is 9.050. If you go under the index it is considered a
loss. “Chad Langdon got me on the starting line, but once we got close to the
finish he did not have enough power to come around me,” said Gedo. “Chad was 5
or 6 feet behind me and I just kept watching his car. I knew he was going to hit
the brakes and when I saw his nose go down I got on the brakes. I ended up
crossing the finish line 5 thousandths of a second ahead of him.”
For a fraction of a second Gedo thought Langdon was ahead of him. “When I saw
his nose go down out of the corner of my eye, I thought I lost. But my win light
came on,” said Gedo. “I let out a sigh of relief, whew.” Gedo’s car ran 9.055 on
the winning run.
The Division 7 racer uses K&N Engineering products. “I love the quality of K&N
filters,” said Gedo. “I use K&N air filters and K&N oil filters.” K&N’s Premium
Performance Gold Oil filter (HP-5001) has thick canister walls for extra
strength and durability. The walls reduce the risk of damage from loose rocks
and debris.
Sportsman Class Winners at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
Gedo said K&N oil filters are amazing. “The engine in my car is brand new.
When an engine is new it gets dirty fast and I do my oil change sooner than
later. There is usually a lot of metal stuff when things are breaking in
together,” said Gedo. “I ran Phoenix, then Tucson, and did the first oil change
in Vegas. I expected really dirty oil during the first oil change but when I
drained it and I was blown away. The oil looked like it was brand new. The K&N
filter really works at trapping debris.”
In a dragster frame the rails are right to the engine and it’s really a tight
squeeze. K&N Engineering’s Performance Gold Oil Filter (HP-5001) is designed
with drilled safety holes for racing and a sturdy one-inch wrench nut to make
oil filter removal quick and easy. “I love the K&N nut, the filter goes on quick
and comes off quick,” said Gedo.
Just for fun Gedo said he did an experiment with his K&N air filter. “I ran my
dragster with a K&N air filter and then took the filter off and ran my dragster
without the K&N air filter,” he said. “You really do get the protection without
losing performance with K&N.”
Gedo raced full time for the last several years, including Indy and Chicago.
“This year I’m cutting back on my traveling and staying in Division 7. It’s too
hard being away from my 5-year-old daughter, Marina,” said Gedo.
The next event on Gedo’s “to-do” list is a Boise, Idaho race in May, and then
Bakersfield, California.
