A lot of NHRA racers running in the Pro Stock, Top Sportsman, Competition Eliminator, Super Gas, Super Stock, Super Street, Super Comp door cars and Roadsters use K&N's 100-8517, 100-8506, 100-8508 and 100-8515 hood scoops. These scoops are designed to help control and improve air flow going into the engine. They also help with the aero dynamics of the race car's body. These scoops work great when the engine is running and racing down the track, however, when the engine is off, without plugging the end of the scoop small things like rocks and debris, can sometimes make their way into the scoop. To help avoid this situation, K&N offers the 100-8518 and 100-8519 hood scoop plugs.
The 100-8518 and 100-8519 hood scoop plugs are designed to close off the opening of the scoop whenever the engine is not running. The 100-8518 hood scoop plug is designed for K&N's NHRA Pro Stock Composite Hood Scoop part 100-8517 which has a 58 square inch opening. The 100-8519 plug is designed to fit K&N 100-8506, 100-8508 and 100-8515 hood scoops which have a 50 square inch opening. The front of the plug is designed from carbon fiber, both for looks and strength. The back of the hood scoop plug has a hood scoop specific cut piece of foam that will fit snugly and keep the plug in place. An additional feature of the 100-8518 and 100-8519 hood scoop plugs is that one edge sticks out past the hood scoop when installed and is what gives the plug its teardrop shape. This longer edge is designed to extend past the scoop and offer a visual alert the driver so they do not start the engine with the plug in place. Since the plug closes off the end of the hood scoop, starting the engine with it in place can cause damage to the scoop, the hood and even the engine. Always verify the plug has been removed before starting or running your engine. | ||||
