K&N Engineering, Inc. (K&N), has determined that the air delivery tubes
in certain K&N Fuel Injection Performance Kits sold for aftermarket
installation on certain Dodge trucks and SUVs contain a defect related
to motor vehicle safety. K&N is conducting a voluntary recall program to
replace those parts.
ITEMS COVERED BY THIS RECALL
The Fuel Injection Performance Kits covered by this recall have the
following K&N part numbers: 57-1509, 57-1511, 57-1511-1, 57-1517,
57-1517-1, 57-1527, and 57-1530. In addition, this recall applies to
certain air intake systems sold as “Mopar Performance Parts,” with part
numbers P5007069 and P5007070. These Kits were sold as replacement parts
for certain Dodge trucks and SUVs, as set out below. Of course, only a
very small portion of the identified vehicles will have one of the
recalled Kits.

WHY WE ARE TAKING THIS ACTION
K&N has discovered that the air delivery tubes in the covered kits,
which were produced with either polypropylene or super linear
polyethylene, have durability problems that can cause pieces of plastic
to break away from the tube. Those pieces of plastic could enter the
vehicle engine, where they could possibly cause the throttle to become
temporarily jammed in the open position. This could potentially lead to
a loss of control, which could result in a crash. Therefore, K&N is
offering replacement air delivery tubes made with cross linked high
density polyethylene, at no charge.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO
If you have one of the vehicles listed above that have a non-factory air
intake system or kit installed, a visual inspection will easily identify
whether you have a Kit covered by this recall. The recalled parts have a
multi-color trademark printed on the top of the air delivery tube that
reads either “K&N” or “Mopar Performance Parts,” as shown in the
photographs below (See Photo 5).
If the air delivery tube has the “Mopar Performance Parts” trademark,
the Kit is covered by this recall, and you should contact K&N at (800)
858-3333 to obtain a replacement part free of charge.
If the air delivery tube has the “K&N” trademark, you will need to
examine it to determine whether it needs to be replaced. On the bottom
side of the tube is a set of markings; if you can see a marking P#X
(where the # stands for a number), the Kit is not covered by this
recall (See Photo 6). All other K&N Kits on the vehicle models specified
above are covered by the recall, and you should contact us at
(800) 858-3333 to obtain a replacement part free of charge.

If you have any questions about this recall, please
contact K&N at (800) 858-3333.
K&N sincerely regrets any inconvenience that this recall may cause you,
but we want to assure that any possible safety problems in our products
are remedied promptly.
